I think part of what people are missing here is that Banger racers are not being blamed for the theft, it's just that if stolen cars could nto be passed on to racers it would minimise the ways a thief can pass on a car, as has been mentioned.
It's like any stolen goods- if you don't think people breaking into your house and nicking your DVD player then flogging it at the pub is okay then you don't buy something offered to you at said pub.
The big difference is that DVD players can't be registered, cars can, the problem could be minimised. I'm not saying v5s are the absolute answer but they're a start.
It works both ways, everyone has their part to play.
Banger racing works greatly on the availability of cheap cars, be they bought off the road or scrapped shells. Perhaps an answer which would have to be government implemented but supported by all car enthusiasts would be to have a banger car database, that cars raced have all their details recorded along with the driver/owners.
There is no excuse for law breaking in any sport, banger racing should be the same.
Banger racing as is will not continue indefinitly, eventually regulations will have to be brought in and it would be better if banger racers themselves would be constructive and try to come up with an answer which would help all concerned.
It's not enough to just say V5 checks won't work- in which case WHAT WILL?? Yes most of us aren't racers, we aren't aware of the full extent of the situation from the racers perspective, but if you are what is your excuse for not doing something to help?
