Up for sale, reluctantly, is my 1989 Volkswagen Golf GTI.
I bought the car back in March, driving it up from Cardiff to Peterborough without any problems. I have moved house since then however, and now do less miles, so the need for the Golf isn't as great. I'd also like to raise funds to get my Triumph 2000 back on the road.
To the car itself then - it is an 8V GTI model in Tornado Red. It was resprayed 2 years ago, so the paint looks very sharp. In the time I've owned the car I have replaced the engine mounts, rear exhaust silencer and front exhaust silencer, as well as fitting a new set of standard springs all round. It also has a set of original BBS wheels fitted, all with decent tyres. I also have a bunch of spares, including alternator, wheel bearings, engine mounts and various bits of trim.
I attended the Run To The Sun VW festival in Newquay in the car, and have covered 2,500 miles so far, without mishap. With 139,000 miles on the clock, it still drives very well, and is great fun all round. Being a 5 door model, it is also surprisingly practical. It has tax until the end of September, and MoT until mid- October.
Bad points - there is a slight dent in the rear panel, from when the previous owner backed into a post I believe. It doesn't really bother me, and hasn't got significantly worse in the last 5 months, but would be an easy fix as I have a pot of matching paint to sort this. The underbonnet area would benefit from a clean, and if you're being picky, then a good polish would also improve things further.
As mentioned above, I'm only looking to sell the car as my circumstances have changed, and the extra funds would come in handy for other projects. I drive the car pretty much every day, and it is extremely handy to have around - so if I don't get a reasonable offer on it, then I'll happily just keep it. It is a decent example of the classic GTI, that has thankfully escaped the boy racer brigade.

Thanks, Matt
