Just a quicky, micra brake pad fitting Help!

I'm in the process of fitting new brake pads to my micra, having fitted the pads i've now got to refit the caliper. The haynes tells me 'the piston must now be fully depresed in to the cylinder.............' but doesn't tell you how to do this, so any one got any tipps?

Most front brake calipers just require squeasing with some big waterpump pliers


but if it's the rears (not sure if micras even have disc rears?) they may need a special winding tool like this

its the fronts and yes that helps ;D so all i need is more force ;D

If you don't have any pliers then just bolt the caliper back on without any pads and you can then press the piston back in by leavering on the disc with a bar/screwdriver of suitable girth so yes a little force should do the trick.

:)I always undo the bleed screw, it makes it much easier. Also on a lot of more modern cars it's essential,especially when ABS is fitted. Sometimes, especially on Mk3 Astras' the master cylinder seals can be damaged by "reversing" the fluid flow.

No offence intended,but if you're working on brakes/suspension/steering ect., and you're unsure what you're doing, then for safetey's sake I would recommend either getting a proffesional to do it, or at the very least stop and ask advise as Retro Mat has done. Hope that doesn't make me sound like a big head,it's just that I've seen loads of dangerous incorrectly worked on cars come in the garage where owners have "had a go themselves". When I think of the potentialy disastrous concequences of wrongly fitted safety related parts that I see it makes me shiver!
