apparently my hillman has been vanadalised!!!! well according to this posting on my thread by 'zagatoman' "What the hell have you done to that poor car?, it look lovely when you first got it. That’s another straight classic that has been vandalised, you should be ashamed of yourself. Although I am prominently a lover of standard looking classics I greatly appreciate the efforts of of the talented people on this site. I understand that peoples tastes are different and am all for the street rod rat look but vandalism is vandalism. I am all for youngsters enjoying the classics but please think before you do anything drastic to your car. Paul " did i realy deserve that reply? thanks chris.

No. He's being a fool for the sake of it. Now fit some nicely sized front wheels to annoy him further.

Not his car so sod him, at least you will use it and looks to me that if you wanted to you could return it to standard. I love it by the way just needs a lot of old school performance tweaks or a mahoosive V8.

Paint is paint. Nothing is irrversable in the right hands. If he thinks it's been vandalised then as/when/if you ever came to sell it he could buy it and return it to factory fresh. Til then your car, your vision. Crack the funk on my friend

variety is the spice of life.... its nice to see factory fresh cars that just get to a showground once or twice a year, but its also good to see cars that are actually used and on the road. nowt wrong with your car, just enjoy it as you want. if you leave old paint long enough it looks like that anyway ;D ;D

vandalized? did you smash the windows, kick in the panels, tear some bits off and perhaps urinate in it? no? hmm... doesn't fit into what's commonly referred to as "vandalized" over here, then...
i love seeing someone do ANYTHING with an old car, rather than let it rot in a field or worse: go to the crusher for scrap or one of the government's "old cars are the devil" programs where they ploy owners of even perfectly functioning old cars into turning them in to be destroyed because they're "bad for the environment"... then the government sells the scapped cars to china. because that's more environmentally friendly.
knowing a car is being used and cared for, rather than shredded and shipped to China to be used to make more curse word...

Vandalised is probably a bit strong, but DIY primer paint jobs are a 'kiss of death' for any old car - PHAKT. if you see a different car you like now, the number of people who will take that one off your hands has ben reduced by about 75% by that paint job, thus bringing it a lot closer to banger racing fodder.

If that's the same car, then yes, IMO, you've ruined it a bit. You posted that it was original paint, rust free - the whole thing looked in really good condition. Perhaps it looked a bit too good to start chopping the arches and painting satin red. But, it's your car, you can do what you want to it... Edit: Feel I should say I loved how it looked until you painted it satin red and cut the rear arches, it looked awesome like this...

There are a few things to remember in cases like this... 1) This car is still on the road and is still being used... 2) This car looks pretty darn cool (shiny Slot Mags will complete the package!)... 3) Oh and IT'S YOUR CAR SO YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU WANT... In all honesty I'm all for the original/factory fresh look but let's be realistic, this kind of mod was being done way back in the 1970's when this car wasn't even that old... Well done for keeping a lovely old motor on the road and well done for making it your own...

For me the whole point of what we do is to have fun with old cars, get noticed and get reactions from other people, you have sucessfully done all three. Keep up the good work ;D

ITs reasons liek this why my cavalier is up for sale..
I personally don't like original shiny paint, i prefer matt black, red oxide, primer grey - thats my choice
so with that in mind, fair play to you for doing what you've done.. Me on the other hand, are appealing to these few who don't liek cars being messed with and offering up my very tidy car for sale - as i feel in my care it may not end up as factory fresh..
if it doesnt sell, and then i decide to slam it and matt black it etc - the haters all had their chance..

nice old car and good to see it being enjoyed.
there's always going to be people who don't agree with what some other people do.
some people think it's a good idea to leave a car standard and let it rust away on thier driveway/back garden rather then sell it to someone who will maintain, but modify it.
can't please everybody.
thou i do see some cars being "done up" in such a way that the owner/modifyer soon gets bored and then ends up breaking/binning, what would have been a nice car. (remember the nice little fiat "pickup"?)
as long as your enjoying it and not killing kittens.....
