Hi all,
Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances, I've had to admit defeat with a project car I've had for a number of years now
It was a Maestro VDP in black and I saved it from the crusher some years ago when it was finally left to languish in my mum's drive, and I always hoped I'd get it up and running as a road going track car and even eventually take it round the Nurburgring, sadly not to be.
So, it's a 1987 VDP model, very scruffy, some corrosion issues on the rear arches and rear most sections of the sills but the rest of the car is really quite solid given its years, the front end in particular is very solid as are the floor pans and the rest of the sills.
All bitumen sound deadening was removed to save weight, sunroof removed and alloy panel riveted in place, all interior stripped out save for the dashboard. Wiring present for boot mount battery , internal fuel lines.
Strong Volvo T5 engine and S40 T4 gearbox currently sitting in the engine bay on a dolly but not mounted, comes with all ancillaries, turbo, downpipe, new water pump and timing belt fitted last year. I can vouch for the engine's good health as I drove the 850 estate it came out of on a few occasions, it felt rapid even with an auto 'box and lugging around a hulking great body.
850 gear linkage and selector, 850 clocks, very nearly brand new clutch fitted, Sierra Cosworth 4WD intercooler.
Car is sitting on a set of MG Montego cross spoke alloys (half an inch wider than Maestro cross spokes) with 4 virtually unused Goodyear Eagle Venturas, though the car has been sitting on these for a number of years, but I have kept them inflated and rotated them periodically. No tailgate glass as it was accidentally broken, but I always intended to polycarb the rear and sided glass anyway.
MG EFi fuel tank and electric pump fitted. Some other spares including expansion tanks, spare headlights and front indicators, and probably a lot more besides hiding in my garage cupboards. All Volvo and Maestro engine mounts included.
Original lightly damaged front bumper and spare tidy front bumper. EFi and original 1.6 wiring looms. Full Volvo 850 loom and ECU complete with remote control (you could include the alarm/immobiliser if you desired), and also the Original Literature and service documents including all receipts from the donor car.
I had also intended to run a rear mount radiator to solve space issues up from with the engine and intercooler, I was going to cut the wheel well out and weld in a sheet of sheet steel
Car is sitting on cut diesel springs, two brand new MG Montego Turbo gas struts up front (OE Unipart) with new top mount bearings and two gas struts which I can't now recall the manufacturer of, but they only got used for a very short period of time before the car went off the road and were purchased brand new.
Welded in steel tube between rear turrets to act as a strut brace and harness mount point. Metro GTi steering wheel.
I have to reiterate, this is no where near being a going concern currently, it's basically a rolling shell with a decent kit of parts included. I'm not really expecting someone to take this on and complete it to be honest, but I would like to hold onto a slim sliver of hope that someone could succeed where I failed and finally get this car to live, even if only as a dedicated track day warrior.
There's probably a lot more I haven't included but if I think of anything I'll be sure to amend this.
You will need a suitable vehicle to transport the car and also some of the heavier stuff like the engine, car is located in Stoke on Trent.
Just a few photos:
If you're interested please leave me a message here and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can, though I don't get chance get online that much but will check as much as I can.
I'd just like to think of someone tinkering around with it and making it happen some day.
Many thanks for looking.
