Hello, its been a long time since I posted anything on here but my recent trip to the amazing RRG11 has spurred me into finally sorting this mother. I bought it about 6 years ago. 2 kids and at least 3 house moves in between meant that nothing has happened - until now.
Its a B1 Audi 80, but the facelift model that was built between 77 & 79, so square headlights and longer tails. I have got an earlier ronud headlight model too - but thats in a bit of a state. For the moment I'm going low and slow as this is an Auto and I can't be fecked to chuck a new motor in it as this is only 77k miles.
So here it is when it arrived, fresh from ebay for the princly sum of £80.
Cleaned up - looking better
Coral velour interior - love it.
OK, so more recently, some oily work, we dragged the 80 over to a mates barn for some quality time.
Amazing truck trolly jack.
New front discs (vented) and calipers from an 80 GT
All new rear drums - these were a nightmare, as Audi made about 4 80 Autos in this shape and basically bodged the rear with bits they had hanging around. Literally nothing would fit, so I ended up having the shoes re-faced and using bits from other VAG motors to build up. They work a treat though and are brand new.
And best of all, got the springs and shocks fitted - no cut coils here boys. I used the fronts off of a B2 which are lowered between 60-80 mm but I reckon its more because it used to look like a Yank tank on hydros! Much better now. Had to grind a lot of excess metal off the caliper bodies to get the wheels on.
Rears look OK standard, not much room in the arches but will have a go - I read somewhere that Sapphire Cossie rear springs work, so I've got some in the garage.
I have binned the old carb, a nasty autochoke zenith turd which was rotten and bashed on a new Weber replacement, which is a manual choke. Its jetted for a 1.8 so needs some new items from Webcon and then all I need to do is fit my new master cylinder. One patch of new metal required and then we're off for the MOT - can't wait.
Here is a current pic, sat on it's low offset 7x14 Revos.
I'll roll around in this for a while to get my ideas sorted, then move onto the early model. I fancy a fruity motor in that one.
