got viva hb estate with its 1200 cc engine,to slow want go faster,so what engine will fitt,don't want chop things about,as be straight drop in lol,and gearbox,  ;D  |

How about a later Viva (or Magnum) 1.8 or 2.3 straight four engine? If you could find a running scrapper with good mechanics you'd be laughing as I'd imagine you'd need to uprate the brakes too.

The only bolt in engine is the the 1256 but won't be much different really...
The Ford crossflow is quite a compact unit for an upgrade and with escort mounts will drop strait onto the mounts of a viva hc and I think hb but the ha,hasn't the biggest gearbox tunnels or engine bays .
Even if it fits with no space making mods you will still have to make or adapt a gearbox mount a prop, prob Gearstick hole position, water and fuel connections. Clutch and throttle cables, exhaust etc.. all easy enough stuff but nothing will simply bolt in ..j

A serious upgrade will be hard. as B-8-D says the 1256 from a HC Viva will fit and you might get 8 bhp more, which is worthless, anything else will require lots of cash, access to rare parts to convert to 2300, not just an engine change it full running gear change. Axles gearboxes etc.
Your really starting with the wrong car if you want an easy upgrade they don't exist.

They did a 1600 ohc in these, so I would have thought you could scrounge the parts for the 1600/1800/2300 conversion? Only the 2000 GT bothered with upgraded uprights etc. Rear axle should take a stock 1800 or 2300? Gearing may be a bit off, but...
Agreed finding factory parts for a bolt in conversion may be hard these days but can't be impossible.
Finding a decent 1800 or 2300 lump may be the trickier part.

Sorry, I started thinking we were on the HA and then thought it was the HB. All this talk of a 1200 engine (I think only the HB had the 1159 "1200" in it unless it was a van)
I had a HA with the factory high compression 1057cc (but not a "90") and it was a fun little car, rev happy and quite sporty if you drove it right. Nice snicky gearbox. 5.20 crossplys it was a hoot.
OK, you'd lose a drag race to a kid on a moped but do you want outright speed or an engaging driving experience?
The 1057 can be tuned up as well, although the parts for that are getting quite rare and pricey now.

Stick a turbo on there. No idea what sort of space is available but a renault5 carb and turbo could surely be used?
