So, I open the Rocktober issue (yes, really) of Street Machine (Australia) magazine expecting to find the usual megabucks muscle car stuff, but instead come across an article about this. Apparently a company called Bodycraft built Mark 2 Zephyr estates using saloons as a base (7500 built altogether) and they also came up with a plan to build fastback Cortinas. They built one 2 door 240, two 2 door GTs and one 4 door. The 4 door lives in a private collection, not sure if any of the 2 doors survive. I found the pics here: www.pixelmatic.com.au/cortina/cortina.html which has a link to an article from 1966. Click the Aftermarket link then the Bodycraft link.

It takes time for the eyes to acclimatise to such a familiar shape with an unfamiliar addition to it. '#dreams of a Lotus version#

It takes time for the eyes to acclimatise to such a familiar shape with an unfamiliar addition to it. Kind of like the first ever time you see a Cobra with a hardtop.

I like it, a shame that more weren't made. The overall shape has hints of Marlin about it and the rear view reminds me of a Datsun Cherry Coupe/ 120A fastback. Completely unrelated, but while checking which company made the Marlin (Plymouth as it turns out, I thought it might've been Dodge) I found this picture of a Marlin with Belvedere wings and I like the idea... or is it a Belvedere with a Marlin top? EDITED TO ADD: Also, VW Type 3 fastback-a-like... before the Type 3 was produced?

I wasn't sure of the ones with the stock ride height/steels, but the one slammed on wide steels looks superb.

Liking that a lot, especially the rearwards lean on the c pillar. Cant help but wonder if that would work better on the two door than the forward rake.
The Marlin / Belvedere is a '57/'58 Plymouth with the Marlin roof.

how interesting, never seen that before. It could have been an interesting range if they'd made this as well: Saxon

That looks fantastic! Really wish these had gone into production. Such a fantastic shape. And as AMAZO has said how awesome would a Lotus version have been!
