What do you make of Covin Turbos?

I'd only use a well known shell such as the countach just to have fun with and not really to predend its real. it would be very obvious one i'm done. still a little wrong i suppose though. damn another daft idea! ;D

I think the only time I would consider using a replica shell is if I wanted to build a drag car. Things like the bigrat are cool as they are more utilitarian than most kit cars. Their function dictates their form and like you say, they are not trying to be anything or copy anything.

Replica and Kit car replicas are how i split certain cars up, where i work at the weekends(mallory park), they have a fleet of Jaguar D type replicas for use for customers on track, they also have a cobra replica.. these cars i don't mind being replicas as they are well engineered and made from one off parts and sound and go absolutely awesome. but if it was a replica based on cortina uprights and ford parts bin type stuff then it would be a different matter.

that covin turbo looks convincing in the top picture, but like has been said.. just buy a 2nd hand 911 and have the go with the show.

not really into replicas, unless its a 28/29 A roadster or the like. I like to see them at shows 'n' stuff (if they're passable) but not the sort of thing I'd go out and buy.

Replica rod bodies are ok in my opinion cos we have trouble getting the real steel bodies. And there are only a finite amount left! Mr2 based ferarris etc are not really my bag!
Bit off topic but someone on vzi said that the 'glass rods are just kit cars, I think this is rubbish and a glass bodied rod is no less a rod than an imported, rotten mismatched steel body on the same chassis! Sorry went off on one a bit! ;D

I didn't think of hot rod bodies. its never gonna be an old ford or whatever but if your only using a body its fair play. theres a lot of argy bargy in the community about this!

Tell ya what though, when i had my rotted MK1 XR2 on one hand i wish i'd built a quantum.

I wonder where the Brookville steel '32 shells fit in with that.

Also if you where to build an MG or Mini or '69 Camaro (www.dynacornclassicbodies.com/classic.html) using a brand new steel shell and all new parts would this be a replica?

Thats arguable i recon, but interesting, if they were to replace a shell i'd say not replica, if it was a custom build up from scratch, I'd say it is a replica. interesting!
