Howdy partners,
I've just scored myself an old ('89) 4.0 XJ6 - I'm unsure what series it is but it looks like an XJ40 with the twin headlight bezels.
Any way, it's a bit tatty and is rolling stock steels at the mo - so it's in desperate need of some rims. I've seen some sweet uni lug wheels that would fit PCD-wise and the offset looks ok by a whisker (21mm+) but they are 14's - and the stock rims are 15's.
Does anyone know if they would fit over the calipers and disks? Anyone else run 14's on an XJ6/XJ40 on here?
All answers as always greatly appreciated. Muchly ta.

An '89 registered 4 litre XJ6 will be an XJ40. Incidentally, being a 4 litre it will be a 1990 model with the analogue dash. It sounds a small point but it makes a big difference when you're buying parts since it has a different electrical system. 14" wheels will be too small and will foul the calipers. Indeed, 15" XJ-S starfish alloys and all Series I-III wheels such as Pepperpots foul the calipers on the XJ40 and any Forties you see wearing them will have had metal shaved from the front brake calipers. David Edited to add: I do like your Viva and how about some photos of the XJ6?!! ;D

Deffinately on the XJ photos - thread coming soon - and thanks for the info. I let slip some 15" 8J slot mags last week and I've been gutted ever since - the Cragar rims I was looking at ended early as well so it's back to the drawing board anyway Somebody else said the XJ40 has 140mm PCD and the XJ6 has 120 - is that right? (mine is 120). Yes - well it says on the registration docco it's an '89 - but it does indeed have the analogue dash clocks. So what rims will fit then - looking at the charts I've narrowed it down to 5 stud Lotus, Lamborgini and Aston for a perfect match (120.65) and BMW for a near as dammit (120 square). I want something old school with BAGS od dish.......

I want something old school with BAGS od dish....... The XJ40 is just the version of the XJ6 made between 1986 and mid 1994 - the Jaguar equivalent of the BMW 'E' number - say E23 or e32. All XJ40s have a PCD of 120.65X5 (4.75"X5 - hence the odd figure). The X-Type, S-Type and X350 XJ Jaguars moved to 5X108, which is probably a Ford PCD. BMW wheels with a PCD 5X120 are a straight fit to the XJ40 providing the offset is correct. I know of several XJ40s with E39 wheels and have seen a car with E46 wheels. The BMW option really opens things up in the UK. When you look round on the Internet, any wheel which fits the X300 will also fit the XJ40 - so if you see something you like on an X300 it will fit your XJ40 providing nothing was modified. Some Holden wheels will also fit the XJ40 and are popular in Australia. In the USA quite a few people fit GM wheels. David

Thanks much that man. It turns out the budget is a bit thin anyway... Thread to follow - but it's a long wheel base ex-wedding car - belonged to my mother. It's mechanicaly great but she's attacked it (like many things that aren't bolted down or otherwise around her gaff) with a paint brush and roller on the roof and sills Still - can't grumble for £250 with 12 months ticket...
