Was crawling about in the space under my conservatory tonight, and found a random sign in amongst the random home brew kit that a previous owner left there. I never knew Esso did tyres Quick Google didnt help much other than revealing that the Yorkshire Ripper had one on his car. Anyone any idea how old this is?

I had a Morris Minor which had both Esso and Firestone Gumball Remoulds on it. Yes, the leading brands used to do remoulds too back then.
They were horrific ancient cracked to curse word things.
I was never sure if Esso's tyre business was a serious thing - ie them developing their own stuff - or if it was a rebranding exercise to have their own label tyres to sell through their service stations.

i do have a set of esso branded sparkplugs, in the garage not sure who made them or what there for tho lol (possibly for a ford)
guess it was a rebrand of anoter companys stuff?

I can clearly remember Mum trundling into a local tyre place when I was a nipper and having four brand-new Esso E-110's put on her '66 Corsair V4 (EOP231D, Purbeck Grey with red vinyl seats....yes I'm THAT much of an anorak), that would be bang-on date-wise at 1972/73. I remember it well because Daddy D was self-employed at the time and complained bitterly about the cost, asking why she hadn't put remoulds on it.
I can still see her now wagging her finger at him and bawling "Remoulds? REMOULDS??? What price my childrens' safety, you skinflint barsteward?" ;D

A mate had a puncture when on holiday abroad and ended up replacing a pair of tyres with Esso items on his FE Victor auto. They were sold on a useage basis. ie if you got a puncture a new tyre was fitted and you just paid for the amount of tread you'd worn away. Not sure if they were marketed the same way in the UK.
