Honestly no idea. I am guessing there will be a retaining collar behind the flange of the halfshaft that will need unbolting and then a slide hammer to remove the half shaft. That is a generalisation of most live axles.
Sorry I cant be of any more help

Done it, did'nt look hard enough did I! I thought the bolts behind the flange were just to hold the backplate on but no, they hold the halfshafts in! Thought the bearings were dead, but now i've got it apart everything seems fine and it appears the pinion shaft wasn't torqued up enough. Just hope when she goes back together thats the end of the whining!

I've had a quick search round the ode t'internet and it appears my whine was due to bearing pre-load. Now the nut you tighten to adjust this was loose which gave me the play in the bearings. Now the 'web' mentions many ways of adjusting this preload using many tools that i don't have, but the Commer manual just says bosh the nut upto 183Nm whcih i've done. There's no movement now and a slight drag when turning the shaft which seems normal. What are peoples thoughts? I've never rebuilt a live axle before and i don't want it overheating if its to tight or the whine to continue. Plus i don't want to take it out again as it took ages!
Sorry about the essay, but as I said before i'm going a long way this weekend!
