Hi folks! I'm new to the site so please go easy on me. I'm a bit of an Opel/Vauxhall nut as you will soon see. Here is my 1983 Opel Manta 1.8GT. I bought it 6 years or so ago. It is an original Irish 1.8 GT which started out life in silver before being resprayed white after the i240 kit was fitted. This is it after I got it. The BBS' were the first addition I made to it. It was fairly sound bar the lower rear panel. I replaced that with a reproduction item.. It was then stripped and given a full respray in Toyota Spectra Blue.. This is it now... It hasn't been on the road for a while now as the doors have gotten bad on it and the spare wheel well needs replacing. I wasn't too impressed with the paint work and a matter of weeks after I had the car on the road it started breaking out in spots of rust in places where there had never been rust before it was painted. The fact that it was left out in the worst rain the country had seen in years for 3 weeks at the painters probably didn't do it any favours. Anyway, comments are welcome!

I forgot to add the spec on it. It is a 1.8 8v running on Kadett D GTE injection. The head is off of a 2.0 8v MK2 Astra GTE. It has a full ashley system with 4 branch. I fitted a Quaife diff and quick rack with Corsa B electric power steering. The front brakes are Audi 80 discs with Vectra B 16v calipers, the rears are standard drums. The master cylinder and servo are from a MK2 Golf GTi which is a straight swap for the original item. All the flexible pipes are braided and solid pipes are all replaced with copper. The interior is from a Manta GTE Exclusive.

Very nice mate.
I do like them in white but the colour you've gone for really suits it .
If it were mine though I'd lose the front spots and do the chrome/silver side window surround trims in black . But it's not mine it's yours.. ;D
Love it .

Really like it in that colour, I think darker colours show off the kit well.
I also think black the chrome would be the right look, but it's your baby and a very nice example.

Cheers guys! The spots will be staying as I think they make it look very aggressive on the road. On a good few occassions I've had cars pull in to let me pass when I'd catch up on them.... and before ye say it, I wasn't tail gateing! Lol! Not convinced by the chrome surround myself but it does work well with the BBS' so I'll leave it alone for the time being but when it gets painted next time I might change it. shywitness... I think the i240 kit is still available from Trevor Lewis Motorsport but thet are crazy expensive. Top quality though. Not sure where my kit came from as it was on the car when I got it but it is not fibreglass. The front wings and rear arches are made from dark grey plastic so it would be a genuine Irmscher kit. Can't be certain of that though. Also the spoiler is hollow and not molded to the boot lid like many 400 kits. Haven't seen another like it.

If you've got a manta/mk2 escort/non drift style AE86 in Ireland, you MUST have spots on it, preferably 4 " 2 up 2 down" as people tend to say about the ones on the escorts and AE86 (or just "twincam"/ "cam" as they're known here ) And willie, tis a nice car by the way, and seems to be a grand useable spec to with the 1.8 injection engine. Shame about the painter f*cking up the paintjob like you were saying. You're not awful far from me actually, i'm only over in co. limerick

Cheers Conrad. Tbh I'm not a fan of the "2 up, 2 down' setup on the Manta, but it is a must on the Ascona, mk2 Escort and AE86 'Tin can' as I call them :-) The spots I have are actually fog lamps and I have a separate fog lamp switch above the rear fog lamp switch for these. I went for the Lucas 20,20 lamps as they were used on the rally Manta 400 back in the eighties!
I'm only 30 min from Limerick city btw!

Ah yeah i'm just saying that's the usual irish way to have spotlights haha. I've always wanted a manta and even bought one once but never got to use it. I don't think you'd like my track record with opels though. Apart from the Rekord i've kind of killed every opel i've had, though they were mostly wrecked omegas/carltons.

Here's a quick run down on how to fit Corsa EPS to a Manta. First you'll need 1 Steering Column from a Corsa B complete with Control unit and all the plugs attached to it with some of the cable too. You'll also need to get a variable resistor (pot) to control the sensitivity of the steering as the standard unit uses the speed sensor on the gearbox to adjust the sensitvity. These used to be on eBay but I can't find a link to any at the moment. Firstly, you need to modify the mounts to which you will be bolting the column. The normal Manta bracket can be modified by fitting a spacer of 20mm to which the Corsa column can be bolted. The rear of the Corsa column which houses the motor part of the column also needs to be fixed to the Manta. Thankfully Opel were kind enough to fit a panel above the steering column which is just right for the job. The bracket on the Corsa column needs to be bent like below and then 2 new holes drilled to line up with the Manta panel. I then fitted 2 bolts to the Manta panel to mount the bracket to. I used shallow nuts to hold the bolts in place as the bracket needs to be fairly close to the panel for allignment purposes. This should have the column in place now. You then need to cut the bottom off the Manta steering column like so... The piece that bolts to the bulk head needs to have a nylon spacer 40mm long inserted into it to keep the column straight in it. The cut end of the column fits into the Corsa column and the other end bolts to the Manta rack. There might need to be some adjustment made to get it all lining up right. I still need to adjust mine a bit but it works fine. As for the wiring side of things, the sensitivity adjuster comes with a very east to understand diagram (just match the colours) and the Corsa control unit needs a 50A fused supply from the battery. Use flexible 16sq cable for this. The large brown cable on the controller is your earth and that can be bolted to one of the brackets under the Manta dash. The controller itself fits nicely up to the right of the column behind the dash. The column should look something like this when bolted up.. The bottom piece of the dash will need to be cut to allow the gearbox part of the Corsa column fit through but it can't really be seen. The fuse box will also have to be repositioned slightly. This takes time and plenty of patience. Hopefully this will be of some use to someone else on here. I'm sure I left loads of important stuff out but I'll remember when people start asking questions!!:lol
