It's 3 different cars, starting with a Ford Tuanus based coupe in 1970 ,then a dodge dart based coupe, they were all Custom built. The spaniards produced some brilliant panel beaters!. Here it is broken English!. Babel Fish Translation Help In English: l author wishes to indicate that for the description of this model and its history it has counted with the precious one and it needs aid Javier Rucabado, a very good expert in American cars, that reune in addition the conditions of fan and professional, something not always habitual in the world of the classic cars. In the Hall Barcelona of 1970 an automobile unknown for everybody is exposed almost. One is one of those marks that were only seen in their country of origin and in Spain, at where they arrived aim to be able to sell here thanks to the hall to the power to concern three cars by the simple fact to expose them, and three units in productions of this type they suppose a sale to have in consideration. The car at issue is called LMX and been sport of attractive design with mechanical motor and other elements coming from the Ford Taunus. In stand of the LMX he was his creator, called engineer Michele Liprandi. The destiny wanted that Serra, always kind to the artisan units for obvious reasons, was interested in that automobile and, after carrying out diverse questions, happened to establish one more a more thorough conversation with the mentioned engineer. The end of history was that Serra and Liprandi decided that the second designed a chassis on which to mount the mechanics of the Dodge Dart produced in Spain, and Serra would be in charge of the construction of the same one and of the body. It was because an operation similar to thought around the Ghia the 450 Spanish SS that already we have commented when speaking of the not-born ones Of Tomaso. The project advances throughout 1970. One is not to make a body but to design a new automobile whose chassis must be able to be reconciled the mechanical elements of the Dodge done in Spain. Motor, change, front subchassis, mechanical transmission, suspensions, brakes and other organs, in addition to the clocks and instruments would come from the Dodge, but the chassis would be of own design and creation. Approximately a year later and with the work of Liprandi already finished, Serra goes to the factory of Villaverde, although this time does not do it to Diesel Barreiros but to Chrysler Spain, that from end of 1969 the society controlled that years before Eduardo Barreiros and his brothers created. Their visit and its project practically agree with the presentation of the new Dodge made in Spain that is the 3700 (and 3700 GT), that incorporates numerous advantages with respect to the previous models, as they are the disk brakes - already present in the GT from the 1969- and attended direction. Unlike happened the five years before, in this occasion Chrysler Spain it gives his approval for the provision of mechanical elements and the project starts. With the security of the provision of the mechanical ones, a mini series of frames happened to be constructed. The structure was tubular, with welded tubes of square section electrically. We insisted on which we are not before another car carrozado by Serra in small series, since the construction of a specific chassis for this model causes that Serra can happen also to be considered like carriage maker constructor in addition. The denominated Dodge 3700 well-known Boulevard like the Dodge Serra Coupé is born commonly therefore. Rucabado gives the hypothesis that the name of Boulevard had perhaps its origin in that the zone of the Stroll of San Juan (then General Mola) in which was the factory was known by many Barcelonians, and mainly in that district like the Boulevar. The Dodge Boulevard is coupé 2+2. The body is made in fiber, being the first time that Serra used east material in its creations, since he considered in his beginnings to the plastic material like a species of improper sucedáneo of a teacher, but at those moments he had already accepted it like something "worthy". The Dodge Boulevard was a car of original line and, of course, unmistakable. Their long cowling, the cockpit reduced enough, and a short maletero, gave the style him of sport the classic ones of great piston displacement, of those of "much cowling", but with a very own line of those moments and that were European and American simultaneously. Except for some pronounced curves, like those of the wheel passages, the Boulevard was extremely angular, of lines that we could describe as as hard, and with a doubtlessly viril aspect. The pretty board of instruments took the clocks Jaeger and Veglia Bressel of Dodge 3700, whereas great number of other elements came from diverse cars of series made in those moments in Spain. Thus for example, the apoyabrazos were those of Sport Seat 124, whereas the pulsers outer and inner of the doors came from Chrysler 180. The gearshift had peculiar pomo that was a reproduction in bakelite of used in the Hurst selector of a manual box of 4 speeds of the Ford Mustang Mach 1, car that seems that it had then like personal vehicle Pedro Serra. The steering wheel, of perforated arms of aluminum and wood Sport Nardi type, took a central shield on pale blue bottom in where "Serra" can be read. The Dodge Coupé Boulevard appeared to the public in the Hall Barcelona of 1972. There was two exposed units, one that we will define as the prototype and other than we can consider already like of series. Between this prototype and the models that followed to him, along with the friend Javier Rucabado, we appreciated several differences as they are: - a grill of radiator different, smoother from lines in the prototype, in which this grill skirts the lights after which it is the same grid that in the radiator, whereas in the models that followed, the grill is fitted in an absolutely rectangular frame with a fort stands out separating it of the double lights. - and, following with the lights but with the buttocks in this occasion, we have were five to each side, and that ignited in the intermitencia of continuous form one after another one, showy thing without a doubt and that used some then American cars of like the Ford Mustang Shelby and the later Mercury Cougar. This system was not retained and all or almost all the produced units was it with more conventional lights, thing to which with almost total security it was forced by Industry. - In the prototype the Dodge mark of very oblong form was written in the grill, whereas the series models took logotipo 3700 alongside left displaced GT. We will indicate nevertheless that it is possible that in the prototype later the Dodge mark was replaced by a reason with letters SS and with small rods of different size from both sides of the double S. This reason was also located in the left side of the grill. Although it is a hypothesis, we thought that SS could mean "Sport Serra". - the prototype took to two corks of gasoline and later models only one and in another position. - In the prototype the doors seemed to incorporate part of the ceiling in the style of Ford GT40 and Chevrolet Corvette, but it was not thus more than in appearance. The supposedly movable part of the ceiling reinforced this appearance of mobility by means of an upholstery with vinyl in the style of the T-Top of some Corvette. - Another very significant difference is the one of the numbers of frame, in where we were whereupon the prototype takes the one of a Dodge that must correspond to, like minimum, two years previous to the one of the presentation of the car, whereas the other units take "logical" numbers of the seventy. It allows to deduce with almost total certainty that stops the prototype took mechanical elements from a bought unit of occasion in order to study the viability of the design and to carry out the tests. After all, to do that first unit and to carry out the precise modifications the same served new mechanical elements that used, and these last ones cost much less. Another explanation would be the one that was used new mechanical elements but that the documentation took advantage of - and the number of frame of an acquired old car to the smaller possible cost. Later, and already made the decision to produce them in series, one resorted to new mechanical sets and numbers of frame also "new" and given by Chrysler Spain since, as we finished saying, the frame of these cars was "made in Serra" and not of the Chrysler, although this society supported them and it recognized them like own. And finally, and although we are not in the differences between prototype and series here, we will indicate that the rims were always French of the Delta-Mix mark, but with the passage of time the system of these rims with hoop riveted in the center of the same one, created problems of greater balance every time, reason why many proprietors decided on the rims marks Targa, excellent national rims of which enough pilots of our country provided themselves as well as the official equipment Seat. This is the reason for which the surviving units take one or another type of rims. Apare
