Found on the marvelous Bring A Trailer site: bringatrailer.com/2011/12/31/diesel-rarity-black-plate-1964-isuzu-bellel/I was inspired by the BaT piece saying "At best, restoring this car would be a labor of love, as the value of the finished product would be far less than the costs of getting it there. Without any motorsport heritage, and no clear value other than being rare, its hard to image who would take on such a task." My thought was that I knew a forum full of guys who would at least consider it, were it not many thousands of miles away... Lots of commenters on the BaT piece are talking about scrap values, which is to be expected in a car that one commenter reckons was one of only 200 imported to North America. Look at the funktastic tail lights. How can you not love it? I see lots of Pininfarina in the design, can't find anything to suggest that's the case though.

Imagine the fun when you tunr up in this at a car show and everyone goes "wtf is that!?" ;D Yet another car I didn't know of before. I like it! Espacially the design of the rear is quite unique.

I never understand why people wouldn't find something like this desireable. It's a great bit of design, admittedly on the small side for the American market, that's probably quite well built. I'd much rather have this than yet another American classic, whichever side of the pond I lived. Best of all, quirky stuff like this is cheap usually so modifying them is regarded as less of a 'crime'.

I would have one in a heart beat, there have been one or two down here in australia but still havent seen one in the flesh. Isuzu built the hillman minx in japan with isuzu badges, then the bellel then bellett then florian/117/faster/luv then the world car gemini/vauxhall/chevette and piazza. I'm no expert but I have a bellett and florian and am currently hunting down a luv ute to bolt some florian panels on, just so people say what the? love to find a bellel hiding somewhere that I could add to the collection!
once you start with early isuzu's you cant stop at one!

You would be an utter hero bringing that to the UK!
Thing is most unloved low volume stuff (and much unloved high volume stuff) is equally uneconomical to restore. I've already spend more on my Buick than it would ever sell for. Who wants a 4 door mid sixties full size small block car that is not an Impala?
A lot of the guys on the BaT forum think unless its a $200,000 Italian sports car, original Hemi 'Cuda or vintage BMW race car its not worth bothering with.
Little known fact, I used to write for them...
I found it frustrating to deal with the somewhat snobby attitudes of some of the regular posters.

Seth -where did you find that???
There seem to be a lot of US bidders becoming interested, (15 -too date) & the owner is cooling on the idea of helping me. Guess its only to be expected.
Finishes on the 9th- I've set the sniper...
AK -I've imported many rare (& worthless ) cars from all over the world. It would kinda go nicely with my Bellett & 117 Coupe.
Here's hoping..

The ad mentions the suspension being based on Hillman Minx suspension. What they don't mention is the engine is also copied from the Minx. Except they re-engineered everything using Metric measures so Rootes and Isuzu components that may look the same aren't necessarily interchangeable!
