Well I've decided to go to Uni so one car has got to go. I don't really want to but I have to!
Model: VW Derby 1300 GLS
Year/Reg: 1980 W reg
Mileage: 42000 (in daily use so will increase a tad
MOT: Until April but will be sold with a Full MOT
Tax:Until end of January but will be taxed again for 6 months as still in use
Good points: Very low mileage with some history to prove, top of the range 1.3 60bhp GLS model (same HH code engine as a mk1 Polo GT) fitted with a mk3 Polo 5 speed gearbox, flywheel and a brand new 190mm clutch and fresh gen VW gear oil.
Fully serviced by myself last year when I bought it. Had oir, air and fuel filters, plugs, leads, cap, arm, points and condensor, valve clearances checked, rocker cover gasket, cam belt and water pump, fan belt, fresh coolant and a thermostat, new rear wheel cylinders and fresh brake fluid... PHEW! Had a new centre and rear exhaust and a set of Phil J 70mm lowering springs and shocks when I bought it in September last year when it had done 37k
Body wise its a very solid example and mechanically it is spot on. The interior is nearly mint and with a little tlc to it and the exterior (see bad bits) this could be a very special car. I drive it every day with no issues and it's happy with long trips so it will get you to shows etc!
Bad points: Top of rear seat cover worn with age and front seat covers on the bases gone baggy like other old VW's do. One cigarette burn to rear bench and one to driver's seat base The only things that let the otherwise mint interior down
Minor dent to driver's front wing but can be saved, noticeable surface rust to gutters and arches again nothing that can't be sorted. It's had a path on the rear of the driver's sill at some point... not the greatest or the worse I've seen but it's solid
Chrome strip in front bumper cracked on the driver's side though an easy fix
Battery tray has had a small patch. The passenger rear inner arch has a small hole.
Will be on freshly blasted and painted standard steels with good tyres as the ATS alloy are not mine!
A decent respray after a little attention to the body issues mentioned will make this a proper awesome car!
