This information has been sent to the company I work for by the Police to circulate as much as possible.
Please contact police on 101 if you spot a White Transit van with chevrons on the rear doors Reg No YT56 BUT/BPU/BUF North Warwickshire Police need your help to catch the occupants of a white Ford Transit van, with orange chevrons on the rear doors, which is trawling around farms and rural businesses in North Warwickshire looking for and stealing scrap metal. The registration number of the van is similar to YT56 BUT/BPU/BUF and Police believe that the occupants are using black tape to change the letters of the registration plate from place to place. This vehicle has been to many premises and on several, the occupants have become aggressive when approached or challenged. Police are extremely keen to stop and question the occupants of this vehicle. If you spot this vehicle DO NO approach the occupants but please contact Police on 101 to report its whereabouts and/or direction of travel. If you believe that the occupants are committing a crime please dial 999. We very much look forward to hearing from you.

One of many, many, many sadly. The scrotes below backed their traveller wagon into the driveway of one of my neighbours while he was out and loaded up everything they could find including all the antique cast iron radiators out of his house which were outside whilst work was being done. Middle of the day on a Saturday too. Luckily I was in when they came round here otherwise I'm sure they would have had a field day.

I stripped down the whole front of my Range Rover to assess what needed repairing to the inner wings, front panel etc. A quick nip to the loo and when I came back down stairs a few minutes later I found a couple of chaps sorting the metal from the plastic parts and saying "is it OK if we have this ?" !

We've had no end or them around our work the last few months, one let himself in through the back door & started looking around. I'm usually polite but I wasn't when I caught him, my motorbike comes indoors when I'm at work now

They've had to start locking the gates to the works car park during the day now cause the gaffer caught some mooching around the yard, when asked to leave they started getting aggressive and making threats I've had them harassing me for parts and even asking if they can have stuff out of my shed before and just not taking no for an answer, the misses even nearly got into a brawl with some not long back cause she caught them taking stuff and while she was telling them to put it back they were nodding and agreeing while still walking off with it She did say tho that some come round the other day and asked if they could take an old engine that I've got waiting to be taken by a mate, she told them no and they were sound about it. She said they were polite and not pushy in the slightest, these are the sort i'll happily dig through my bits for any thing I know I will never use, but the rude, pushy and aggressive types get jack

I know a guy with a load of cars who used to have trouble with the local ones until he gave them a free car. Then they must have got word that he was "alright". From the pikies I've known in my life, there's plenty of honest ones which ended up as friends. But also plenty of dodgy ones too unfortunatly.

All the demonising on this thread is uncalled for and bordering on racism.

Sorry but the ones round here are utter scum, to the point where they tried taking my greenhouse. Thats not called working, thats called theft & criminal damage. Honest scrap men would have a phone number on the side of the van - havent seen on yet - have seen plenty that repaint the van every couple of months though. nail on the head be nice to scrap men, they are only trying to put food on the table. explain why you need that mini door or pinto engine, give them a bit of alli and some household cable, buy the odd piece off them, get a mobile number 'in case you need to ring about some scrap', it all helps to cement a relationship and keep the bad element away from your house or business. same as everywhere really,,,theres good and bad in every section of society tbh the scrap stealers this thread is about,,,tried to steal my 9000 aero when i had it,,,someone burned it out and the next day they turned up to lift the wreck without my permission,,,luckily they were spotted,,,and yes when approached they did get aggressive,,,but i had a crow bar in my hands so they soon realised they werent going to get it a bggered off. they've been at it for months,,,and the police havnt been able to pin anything on them yet hope they catch em just to see some justice done. oh and btw i have personal experience of how bad metal theft can be,,,i was one of the tenants who got flooded out of their home when a copper thief stole copper pipe from my building and caused over 20 grands worth of damage. something needs to be done at a much higher level than the police to stop this

Basically, if it's metallic and not bolted down (or they have long enough) they'll have it away. A mate of mine has taken to covering everything he leaves outside in some crazy hot chilli oils.

we get them all the time at my work (car bodyshop) and some are nice even offer to take away plastics like bumpers etc, and another who walks around without asking, he then had a van door and caught a car with it.... we confronted him (3 vs 1) and he threw the door to the groud and got aggressive. we dare not tell him not to come when he shows up as we fear for our business, we now hide it from the scum

I'm sure there are some honest tat men out there, but I've heard loads of stories about dishonest ones. Not, far from where I live, they stole all the man hole covers/drain covers from the road. And I once had to chase some down the road in my bare feet, when they stole my Porsche 944 design 90 alloys from out of the back of my pick-up. Surely, they should be liecenced or something?

All the demonising on this thread is uncalled for and bordering on racism. Sorry, no. I shouldn't have to give things away just to keep people from stealing from me. I don't mind giving away stuff that I was going to get rid off anyway (had a chap round asking if I was getting rid of the Landy roof in the garden, he went off happy enough with some scruffy steel wheels instead) but why should I give away things I might want just to stop something I want more going walkies. Bit like suggesting that shops give the pisshead shoplifters the occasional can of lager to stop them nicking vodka; it's not exactly going to solve the problem in the long run is it. I can only assume you've never experienced valuable items left secured going AWOL, to have such a relaxed attitude. Of course there are genuine, honest scrap dealers out there. But we don't need to look out for them stealing from us do we, so it's not exactly the purpose of this thread.

Sure there's good & bad in all walks of life but this sems to be all too frequent activity that alot of people see & hear about. Christ knows how much of my council has been spent over the last year replacing manhole covers, railings etc. Alot of them don't ask or try and find out who owns what, just pull up, jump out and grab what they want before they're spotted.
