There have been a few questions about welding in the past few months.
Some have been from people wanting welding done, others from folk asking for advice to get started or to tackle something they've not done before.
For anyone interested in MIG welding, an excellent site is ...
Tutorials www.mig-welding.co.uk/tutorial.htm
Forums www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.php
It's a very grown-up site, excellent for beginners - post up a pic of your weld and you will get good advice on how to improve !
They also have very good buyers guides and a for-sale section
Another I've just found which looks similar is here, page down to see the menu on left of the screen :
www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/mig-welding-tips-articles.html
Welding is difficult to learn from a book, some helpful video clips on You-Tube :

If you've never tried welding before it will help A LOT if you can find someone willing to spend a couple of hours with you to show you how to set the machine up.
Next is practice and more practice !
Once you've got the hang of welding, you then need to get something to weld
Excellent guides on the RR "Making Panels" thread below

About me : I'm happy doing most car repairs, was originally trained by an old hand to weld using oxy-acetylene, moved away so didn't do any welding for a long time and a few years ago picked up a home MIG set.
Now I wonder how I managed for so long without a MIG set ;D
The links above helped me a lot when I was just starting with MIG, hopefully they will help others thinking about taking it up
Have fun ;D
