I delivered this for a friend today, a bit of rare 80's cheesy retroness if I ever saw some. Bet you've never seen one of these on the road before! Having delved underneath it is in FACT a Laurel Coupe having all Laurel running gear It drove like a boat in gale! though made a lovely 130bhp 2.0L 6 pot turbo rumble unfortunately it was a slush-o-matic ;D Drove 500 miles from Belfast-Stranraer to Sumo-Power (its new owners) in Kent without missing a beat. Air con, elecy windows, mirrors everything worked!!! Apart from the dull paint its in remarkable condition inside & out with lovely red retro velour interior. Cheeeeeeessssseeeeeeyyy

I've seen dozens of them on the road, driven more than a few, but given I'm in NZ then it's pretty much par for the course. I briefly owned an R30 Ti sedan, with a nasty ol' CA18 engine and an auto box. I'm not sure calling it a Laurel coupe is entirely correct, it's a Skyline coupe of course Although Skylines and Laurels have indeed shared a lot of mechanicals, and heaps of parts are interchangeable..... I guess whether or not you want to call it Laurel or Skyline running gear is up to personal preference. I reckon they're cracking looking cars myself, a chap up North has a genuine FJ20ET powered RS-Turbo "Iron Mask" coupe, and has a sedan en route to match. *edited to fix spelling mistakes.

Sounds like the perfect day to me, will be interesting to see what Sumo have got planned for it considering the hooge warehouse of goodies they've got, along with many contacts in Japan. Nice.

Is Sumo power those guys who have built that pink R33 that's supposed to take down the quickest GT-R drag record?

Brilliant! I've not seen or heard of this one before, but I have seen one or two others over the years - for some reason a reasonable number seem to have slipped over here, a mixture of JDM, South African and maybe even ex-Oz examples. Nissan UK may even have bought one or two across. First time we went to Norway one of our convoy was an R30 saloon with L20ET. Still deeply regret not buying that R30 hatch that was on eBay last year.....

Yes it was at the last J show at santa pod but never ran was just on there stand don't know if it's fully finished yet. Tim Webster however was the quickest on the day: PRO12 +0.327 8.808 162.88 www.japshow.co.uk/pro_shootout_detail.php?RaceNo=PRO12Simon

J Can anyone else really see the similarity between this and the R34 Skyline? Looks like an awesome bit of kit and can imagine that it may turn into something pretty rapid in the hands of Sumo!

I know this is a properly old thread, but I thought you guys would be OK with it! I just bought an R30 skyline.... To be more exact, it's a DR30 Skyline RS, naturally aspirated version. I have just bought it and its still in Japan at the moment, but the importers agent has taken a few shots and it seems that it's got some goodies that I didn't know abiut, as well as some that I did.....its got Coilovers, front spoiler, Recaros, SSR mesh wheels and twin carbs that replace the injection.... Condition wise, its pretty good, its a condition 3.5, which means its in good, used condition, with no (reported) mechanical faults and confirmed 81000 kms, so hopefully it should be all good ?. But only time will tell ? Anyway, I'm sure you'd all like to see some pics!

Cheers guys! Can't wait for it to land!
Adam- it'll be cruising the mean streets of South Warwickshire shortly after Xmas! Iron Masks are cool too! Think we have a mutual friend in ChasR....I'll get him to shout you and you can come check it out!
Jayom- weirdly enough, I found loads more turbos than N/As when I was looking....but I wanted the best combo of toys and condition for my budget....so this one won!
