Its been one of those days where i feel absolutely exhausted but don't really have much to show for it.....Sadly everything seems to take a lot of time and effort now so the progress photos are less frequent and less impressive as they go. That said, i did get a lot done. Had to ditch the pedal box as i just couldnt get it mounted anywhere which would work. Instead i have chopped it to pieces and I'm in the process of making my own using parts from the box. Have to wait for a few parts which ive ordered so its only about 1/4 of the way there but its looking promising (although this is going to be one heck of an uncomfortable car to drive) As i could do no more on that i painted a few of the engine parts i still have laying around and then got on with starting the wiring loom. Again I'm waiting for parts to be delivered so all i could really do was start stripping out all the curse word i don't need from the old loom. I layed the loom out from the rear lights socket up to the main cluster behind the dash. Started from the tail lights and working my way forward removing anything i don't require..... Everything which is coiled in this picture will be removed, This was all the old door electrics, rear heated screen, boot light etc The aim here is to make a complete new loom of simplified electronics. The old system utilized a BCU which i want to do away with. Simplifying the loom to this extent SHOULD reduce chances of faults not to mention save a few KG's in the long run. The green headed cables here were to/from the BCU so once removed it should free up a little space for a simple circuit

Its been a little while since i posted, Mainly because i was waiting for parts as usual. Anyway, had a good bash at making the wiring loom. I'm going piece by piece then it will all come back out and be tidied up in one go. so first up was the fuse box, I have since added a 2nd wire to supply power to it after re-calculating the length vs current. Then i made up a quick plate to fit in an existing hole in the dash to house various things, first up was an engine start panel. The "ignition" switch only controls the fuel pump as i wanted that on a separate switch, the light is wired for the handbrake as the existing light has vanished with the chopping of the dash and the start button is pretty self explanatory Kill switch was up next, this is between the battery and the live feed to the fuse box, its essentially my "ignition" for the cars internals I wanted to keep some originality to this so decided to use the original warning panel, it was a huge pain trying to get it all set up but worth it in my eyes if nothing else. The next job was to get some cables running down to the rear clusters, the biggest pain here was applying the PVC coating....talc would have definitely been useful here Then each wire was re-terminated and added to a new connector block (spot the obvious mistake here.......i went to sleep shortly after this ) I don't have pictures of the whole lot but i currently have; brake lights, hazards/indicators, the wiring is in for side lights but needs connecting to the lights, fuel pump is wired and the dash warning lights are in. relays are wired for dipped/high beam. All in all this is very time consuming but as its the first time i have done anything to this level its quite rewarding (once the frustration and anger has passed) Engine should be back this week but i wont be fitting it for a while, need to finish the internal loom before moving onto the engine bay. Not to mention the huge list of parts i still need to buy for under the bonnet

So i have been getting on with the loom. This is turning out to be far simpler than the original one. Dash illumination is now working. Was some issues with old tired contacts on the flexi board but a quick clean got that working again. I have ordered some LED replacements to see how they look but still waiting for them to arrive. Fitted the steering wheel for the purpose of wiring in and testing the horn which went well Then the seat and pedal box went in to test the brake light switch and just because i have never seen it all in together and needed inspiration Excuse all the wiring laying around in the cockpit, the loops of wire are all from the clocks for things like speeedo/rev counter/oil presssure/ coolant temp/fuel level etc. They will be wired in soon and tucked away under the dash. All which is left for the loom is fog lights, reverse lights, headlights (dipped and high) i have ordered xenon 12000k for this as I'm fully re-wiring anyway, the circuit for the wipers has been sussed and just needs fitting. Then its only the engine bay to wire but that obviously needs the engine which still isnt finished yet. So far so good

Been soldiering on slowly with the loom, Its very very close to being finished now. Just need to test the reverse lights and then tidy up the wiring. Volt meter fitted Fuel gauge is wired in (no fuel in the tank) Tucked away the passenger side wiring almost as it will be when finished. The same cant be said for the drivers side at the moment Fog lights all wired in and working well Never realised how time consuming this would be but its easily saved another 20kg so far which is good

I used to own an almost sister car! Wow! Any idea what happened to it? According to the DVLA database it's tax ran out in Feb 2006

It was owned by my father in law from a year old, and he gave it to me in 2001 or so. I did all the welding on it in 2002, and used it for a few years until moving house and having to reduce the fleet meant I had to sell it in 2005. I remember listing it on eBay with a couple of faults - namely the rear passenger door had obviously had paint and was faded, plus the pile on the driver's footwell carpet was falling out.
I was amazed to get an email from the original owner from new, saying that the carpet was down to the Alfa dealer spilling some solvent on it during its first service, and the door was from when someone reversed into it at a petrol station when it was a couple of weeks old!
A shame it appears to be no more :-(

Today i have mixed emotions Had to go down and have a look at the engine, First emotion is happiness as it looks great so far.......(pictures really don't do it justice) Then we have hit a snag, Changing an engine from FWD to RWD isn't the hardest thing in the world to do but it adds complications. The oil pump is causing some issues at the moment as the one from the new 24v engine wont pick up from the right place and could be starved during cornering. The one from the original engine also wont work as it the old engine had a distributer which was driven by the oil pump shaft. So we have had to "bastardise" them both to make a good one which did work....until it was fitted and secured properly....Its a long story to explain but basically once its fitted the shaft can not be rotated and the engine is essentially seized. We think we have came up with a plan to rectify it I'm just waiting on confirmation from a guy on here who has done this build before.

you've gor two options, 1st: use the original 24v pump minus the pickup, this has to be shortened(cut&welded) or 2nd: use the 12v pumphousing combined with the shaft of the 24v. this way has a slight problem, the gear on top of the shaft will be ca 3mm too low

Hi guys, Been a little while i know. Finally got around to rebuilding and fitting the headlights....... Then got on with fitting the throttle bodies..... I can't even begin to imagine the levels of engineering which went into making these, They did say the manifolds would be a little tight.... The kit went together very nicely indeed Just need to sort the fuel rails out this weekend once the injectors are good to go.

When I wen to the Nurburgring a few years back I noticed nearly all the 'track car' hire companies around the ring us these Alfas. Thought it was strange the Germans using old Alfa 75s but must be a good base for a cheap fast car??
