Todays update is somewhat dissapointing. Started off by putting the battery on charge and got on with changing the wheels over, this did not go to plan. Put he front on and it looked like this Looks good, fills the arch nicely, however..... The wheel rubs on the arch liner, was going to modify the liner only to realise that the wheel was wedged firmly against the suspension cup Thats a no go then Turned my attention to the rears, again a no go as they rub on the torsion bar So, back to square one with the wheels, bloody shame as I liked these.

Right then, had a look over the car to see whats left to do earlier in the week, it appears to have come back to me in much worse condition than when I left it at the garage 7 months ago. First of all the battery will need replacing. A few scabs of rust have developed. Still trying to track down a replacement front bumper, although the damage appears to have worsened. New rear wiper blade required Indicators no longer self cancel, is something missing from the steering assembly, or have they not located properly? Sunstrip needs removing, any tips? Also the one of the brakes is grinding, trouble is I'm now working for 10 days straight so wont get anytime to spend on the car for a few weeks.

Wasn't aware of FCS, I@'ll have to look into it. There's a thread on retro-renault about it, at Castle Combe this year. Have you found a bumper yet? there were a few on ebay, even a NOS unpainted one! You really need to get that car on the OE wheels for it to look A1, in my opinion.

having just googled these. The original wheels look properly cool! I can remember these things being pretty common, But never see them anymore. Even when ive been looking for a project.

Get a scraper and road tar remover/de-greaser and the sun strip should vanish. If your not keen on using the scraper the cheap way is warm soapy water or a heat gun. Just be careful with the heat gun can do damage! Lol if you ever sell this car plz plz plz sell it to me!

arrgghhh this car hates me I'm sure. When the car came back from the garage the front brakes were shot, so treated it to these. Front discs and pads. Fitted. After fitting the brakes, the car was actually a pleasure to drive for the first time since I bought it. Should have known this wouldn't last long though as 2 days later, I went to drive the car only to find the rear had a puncture. Replaced the tire, driving home from work and the rear view mirror decides its had enough and drops off, blow me down the next day, I'm driving into work go to close the passenger window and the regulator dies, so now the window is stuck half way. No worries sun is shining and I can fix in the morning I think to myself, nope by the time I get out of work it's torrential rain and cant do anything until the morning. Not good. So next morning strip the door card, lube up the regulator, shout at and hit things and it starts to work again. It's still touch and go when you try to close the window, so until I can source a replacement it's going to have to stay closed.

More bad news heater matrix is shot, so need to source, there are some on ebay but fitting is something I'm not looking forward to. In the mean time I sourced the correct fitment dash clock, removed the cheapo digital one, only to find one of the previous owners had cut off the plug that connects to the clock doh!! Anyway I put the clock into place as its much more pleasing on the eye. I will sort out wiring when time allows.

finally found some parts I have been after for a long time. A guy in Halifax was breaking a R19 hatch that had suffered flood damage. So I made the 5hr round trip to pick up parts yesterday morning. Front Bumper Original alloy wheels and some bits of trim, speaker cover, original digital clock with plug, alarm sensor cover and door lever. Picture of the donor car The guy I bought the parts from also had this in his lock up Stunning doesn't even begin to describe it, full nut and bolt restoration, just been treated to a fresh re-spray. Beautiful car. So the original wheels I picked up are very tatty, so before they go onto the car I need to raise some funds to refurb them and replace the tires. Not sure what colour to go for on the wheels, thinking gun metal or white. Any thoughts?

Hey you are showing great perseverance with this, hats off to you. That pic of the steering wheel sticking out of the column by 1" doesn't look too good, is that after the garage had fitted the new rack? Sounds like you need to loosen the pinch bolt at the bottom of the column and try to push it all down a bit. I think your indicator self-cancelling should come back if you get that to sit right.

Yeah the garage bodged the refit of the steering column, I took it back to them to sort. It's now in the correct position.

I always fancied one of these when younger. I actually went to look at one once but the gearbox was buggered (fairly common I believe?) There used to be a 3 door locally, it was very low and on 17" Imolas, it looked good. I always like the touring cars too

Well well well……… my old car
Heartbreaking to see how it deteriorated to that state, especially as it got some much good attention at RWS at silverstone too
I so underpriced that car when I sold it, hope you get it back to its best condition and if you do, you're welcome to come here and get it detailed again, and I could even give you tips on keeping her in tip top condition if you like

Thanks for sharing the pics, how long ago did you own the car? It was in an unloved state when I bought it, saved it from being broken up for the engine. Replacement front bumper is due to be fitted tomorrow, then I need to refurb the speedlines before putting them on. Once thats done I may take up the offer of detailing.

You may remember that I sourced a dash clock a few weeks back, went to fit it only to find the wires had been cut and the connector was missing. Well I sourced a digital clock (which is original spec for this model) and associated connector. Removed the unconnected analogue clock to reveal cut wires Sorted out the wiring and installed digital clock Problem is it looks naff, decided I prfered the look of the analogue clock, so connected that using the wiring from the digital clock. A working dash clock finally allowed me to get rid of this eyesore currently attached to the dash
