For my trailer I've used Buffalo board - worth considering as a fraction of the cost of 4-5mm alloy plate. Google "buffalo board" or "phenolic faced plywood".

As long a sufficient support underneath (probably the same as needed for alloy) then Buffalo board is more then strong enough. I've hired transporters in Belgium with it and takes a lot of abuse. Also remember it's used for horse box floors. A horse weighs maybe 15cwt and that is concentrated on the small area of it's feet. I've got 3mm alloy as a liner on the bottom of my small trailer and it's getting to the point where I need to remove it to hammer the dents out from the reverse as it's getting distorted hence I got buffalo board for my big flat bed trailer. Have you thought of trying HGV trailer breakers to see if they have the floor out of one ? Sometimes they use alloy "tongue and groove" sections that would be ideal. Paul H
