Just go for it. American vans are absolutely the way to go - so so much more solid than any European offering. And if it does go wrong, you can fix it yourself. Yes, it will do 11mpg, but with an LPG conversion (get hold of a BLOS LPG carb), it becomes very practical and affordable transport. Looks like a day or two of fettling to get the interior to a useful standard, and the rest you learn as you go along. It looks like a fantastic base. We've had our Dodge Ram for 7 years now, and it gets used nearly every other weekend from March to October. It carted us all around America, Canada, and all over Europe. Apart from the front brakes getting a bit stroppy coming down the Alps, it's been 100% reliable.

gas is cheaper if you get a tank filled rather than buy bottles, If you're buying more than one bottle at a time it does work out a lot cheaper, even though i'm on account for my autogas and get it for less than the pump price it would still work out quite a bit better to buy a few bottles at a time - 47kg bottle contains about 90(ish) litres of liquid LPG but you can't get all that out. Obviously this is not for road use as its not had the correct VAT rate and duty applied. Also you need a pump, ignore the pictures on the net of an American just dumping a bottle in - it doesn't work here.
