I don't seem to be having the best of luck at the moment, and this car has decided to blow up it's radiator. This was an annoyance, but one that I was prepared to fix. However, it now appears that it has blown the head gasket as well. Due to personal circumstances I'm unable to repair this, and so the car is up for sale.
It's a shame, really, because it's a lovely car. Nice paint, clean interior, very comfortable to drive, long MOT...
Recent work includes ARB bushes for the MOT, it's had the jacking points welded before I got the car, a common rust spot on these cars. I also had a hole under the battery welded and treated for rust. It's had a new battery, new heater blower (another common fault on these) and fresh coolant all in the last few months. Less than a month ago I stripped down the KE-Jet injection system, cleaned everything up, sorted out some vacuum leaks and adjusted the air flow meter back to factory spec, which sorted out a rough running/non starting issue. I also put in NOS Denso T20-EP-U plugs, supposed to be some of the best for this engine. Before me it's had masses of work carried out at King's Motor Services, there's loads of invoices from them, it's definitely been well looked after.
So, good points:
-Long MOT.
-Many of the common issues with this model have been dealt with.
-Good stereo and upgraded speakers.
-Excellent heater.
-Great for mile-munching.
-Surprisingly big boot.
Bad points:
-Suspected head gasket failure - turns over easily, doesn't start.
-No radiator (Peugeot 106 radiator supplied with car, should fit.)
-Spark plug in no.2 cylinder loose, possibly cross-threaded. It had a slightly lumpy idle but ran fine like this, I didn't notice it for ages.
-Central locking doesn't work on passenger side front door, fine everywhere else.
And that's all I can think of for now. In my opinion, £250 is a fair price: you could get £50 for the heater blower, as it's nearly new. It would also be very, very easy to get at least £100 by selling parts of the fuel injection system, I've seen the fuel metering head alone go for over £100. So that's at least £150, then you weigh it in. However, if you have the time to sort out the HG, you'll have a really nice car on your hands for not a lot of money.
The car will need to be collected from Toker's Green, which is about 10 minutes' drive from central Reading. Unfortunately all the documents for the car are in Southampton, so I will have to post them to the buyer. I would go and get them, but I don't have a car at the moment and I really need to sell this car before I go back as it's currently outside a friend's house. I also have a Haynes manual, a rocker cover gasket and a new hydraulic tappet in Southampton, all of which can go with the car if required.
If I've missed anything out, please give me a call on 07963 three two one 687. I'd prefer phone calls to texts or communication through the forum.
Here are some pictures, they're from the advert when I bought the car:
This car needs to go soon otherwise I will have no option but to scrap it, which I really don't want to do
