I went down the garage earlier to adjust the brakes and check fluids etc and found this AVO leaking badly, changed the pair for some standard shocks, the AVO'S have only been on there for about 6 years or 8k miles! A quality issue I expect? My 8 year old helped me fit the shocks Here it is off the car, very wet and no resistance I thought it would sit high at the back with standard shocks but it doesn't Adam my 8 year old said to me,"that was easy dad, when are we cracking on with the proper job?" How long should shocks last? Its not as if I'm rallying the bloody thing!!

Talk to AVO, customer service is very good apparently, they'll rebuild them but you may have to pay

Evening Mr Gurner,
I would expect at least 20k miles out of a set of quality dampers like AVO's, and it is not as though the imp is a heavy car! I would have a chat to them as I think it should be covered under faulty manufacture / components. Good luck!
J
p.s. yes I am missing mine!

I had a similar AVO coil over shock unit rebuilt from my Mk1 Golf track car a year or two ago. I called their customer service and they said to send it to them in the post. They rebuilt it, and returned it within about 10 days as I recall - I think it cost around £50.

Hmmm, that's curse word Gurn. But in my experience, par for the course with modern rubbish.
TBH - its a shame they aren't within the magic 5 years or you could have recourse with AVO for them not being fit for purpose. If you can prove the mileage, I think it would be worth a strongly worded letter/email to them to express the fact that 8K miles is not an acceptable mileage for them to last. Keep the pressure up on their Customer Services department and you never know...
Long term - buy some Konis... more expensive, but last years and are 1000000000% better than AVOs/GAZ/Spax etc...

Just cos something is good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone - for example Marmite does not make good Dog Food.

Older AVO's sometimes had an issue, the newer ones are much better. But get in touch with them and they'll re-build it for you as they very much into customer care nowadays.
