I've had two in the past, a Fiat Caravelle (Amigo style) and a VW early Bay Dormobile, and had no intention of getting another until a friend posted some pics on Twitter of the Bay they've rented for a weekend, and the itch as returned! Now, I'm scouring eBay for hours seeing what's there. Problem is, the budget would only be about £2000 and I would want something small e.g. Rascal/Carry, Escort, Marina, probably Hi-Ace is as big as I'd go. Is there anywhere in the South-East that specialises in these sorts of vans or is it a question of ploughing through the small ads? When I had the Amigo, there was one on the A4 near Taplow, but that now seems to sell massive coachbuilts, same as one in Hurst Green, and one in Caversham that seems to have disappeared. There's a place in Tottenham I've seen loads of ads for, but no website. Has anyone used them?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Trawl the for sale and then put a wanted add on here tbh. Cool (but often rusty!) van/camper stuff does pop up.

You could always rent one for a week and enjoy the scenery and roads of the Scottish west coast DSC_2756 by Scotland by Camper, on Flickr 3 by Scotland by Camper, on Flickr Let me know if you are interested and I will sort you out with a discount. Dave. P.S. If the blatant advertising is frowned upon let me know and I will remove.

MM - that certainly is lovely but with my wife's back problem (you recommended a Scenic RX4 before I got sidetracked ) I think a lifting roof would be necessary, and I don't think it'd be fair to cut a big hole in that. PS - Much as I did like my Caravelle, I'm wary of the cooling and the spares situation. But some welcome ideas, thanks!

Cant recommend Bambis, slow (like 50mph slow) teeny tiny inside and cramped to drive, not very reliable because they run at maximum weight all the time and just wear out, scary as f**k on the motorway.
My old man had loads, it took me 10 years of nagging for him to stop buying them (I got fed up with rescuing him) the only reason he carried on with them was because he liked the club.
Now he has a proper Talbot van camper he's a lot happier to travel.

I'd LOVE this myself but no room, no money. Some nice rims, a little drop and that'll be almost too much awesome to cope with! I'm glad so many on here seem to approve of this van, especially RR legends like you MM, I collect him this Sunday and cannot wait.... Not sure whether to drop or change the wheels yet, I reckon gold wheels would set it off well against the gold pinstripe, final decision may well depend on if I can fit him into my lockup as is or not. I did have plans to drop and add wheelage, alas never happened. Get on it Kris, it would look fantastic!

Thanks for the input everyone, but fate has yet again kicked me squarely in the you-know-whats, with the daily now needing cash spending on it and a couple of unexpected household expenses So it's the back burner for this plan.
