Got a problem with an alternator, its overcharging massivly..
What are the options for a universal or aftermarket regulator?... basically wanting a steady 13.5/14v when running.
Ive tried a voltage 'stabiliser' which has seemed to help. No solution though..
Any advice or suggestions from the wizards on here?

What vehicle/alternator? You can usually buy a replacement voltage regulator fairly cheaply.

What vehicle/alternator? You can usually buy a replacement voltage regulator fairly cheaply. We fitted an Almera engine into a kit car.. There are 2 wires on a plug from the alternator, and the MAIN 12v feed but unsure how to wire this in? It chearges just off the single main 12v feed but its un-regulated. |

you sir are a legend.. !.. I'm not sure if its ecu controlled but surey one of these ebay regulators could be wiring in now..
It was the four pins that threw me?..
pretty sure its internally regulated normally..?

Japanese alternators often have a "battery sense" wire (small one which connects straight to the battery) in addition to the ordinary heavy current terminal and the one to the warning lamp.
This sense wire detects the voltage at the battery, to take into account voltage drops in the wiring. If it's not connected, the alternator will overcharge.
Thing to do really is to find a wiring diagram for the donor Almera - haynes manual perhaps? That way you know you've wired it properly.
