Help me identify knocking noise.

Please excuse the cheesy video it was the first time she had run at all in 5 years.

All wheels are done up tight, front bearings are tight but not too tight as they are taper roller type.

Rear hub nuts have been done up with my air gun on max!

Both front wheels can be spun without the noise, and there is nothing out of place in the rear drums.
It is not possible to spin the rear wheels due to the nature of the vario. It has no differential so unless you grasp both wheels at the same time you cant turn them even then your turning the whole variomatic assembly right up to the primary gearbox.

Ball joints are all ok. Although one TRE has barely perceptible play in it. I really cant see it making that noise.

I don't know what the noise is and its bloody loud so she is not being driven again until I do.
I have a nasty suspicion it may be vario related.

Does the knock increase with road speed or engine revs?

I've got no idea how the laggie band drive works on those things?!? I know the theory tho, I'm guessing the cones have bearings in them?

Have you tried putting the back end on axle stands and..erm..doing what ever you need to do to get the drive to the rear wheels??

Does it even have a prop shaft?? Could be a centre bearing or a bent prop? Even a bent drive shaft/half shaft?

I will try that. The noise is there whenever she is rolling in any gear and whether or not the engine is running. I'm suspecting a broken halfshaft at the moment. They will drive with only one as drive to each wheel is independent

Problem solved.

Left hand front wheel was ever so slightly loose. I did the wheels up with a torque wrench but didn't take into account rusty threads buggering up the torque settings. No harm done and car is currently being MOTd provided it will run long enough. Dynamo and regulator are caput and the spares haven't arrived in time.

Yeah was a slightly embarrising one but hey ho. Ive heard of people doing wheel nuts up fingertight, forgetting about it for 6 months and then driving away without actually doing them up before.
This one I'm going to blame on my training which drummed it in to us to always use a torque wrench on wheel nuts Wouldn't have been a problem with my previous method before doing the course of get the longest breaker bar I own and stand on the bloody thing, then its tight enough. They frown on that at college for some reason
