Over the next few months I am going to be building a cider press & apple scratter (pulper) for my brother.
I have acquired a suitable screw jack for the press & the frame will be made of welded box section.
The problem I have is the scratter. I will need a wood drum about 6" in diameter & at least 8" long. I don't really have access to wood turning facilities. I suppose I could chuck up a log in a Myford super 7 & hope for the best but in reality I will need to find a pretty straight cylindrical piece of wood with the dimensions suggested above.
My current idea is to buy a fence post & lop the required length off.
Thoughts, suggestions?
Many thanks.
