So...eBay struck and I might have bought an entire car just for it's wheels. However it's pretty cool - I love Tourings and I love BMW's and I love E34's. It's an E34 Touring - perfek! If it's good enough I might keep it for a bit as opposed to taking the wheels off and f ralogging. What is important is how easy are they to hardslam? I've noticed that there are no E36/E46-esque coilover kits on ebay - will any other stuff from more common models fit/be made to fit? I don't want to go too mad on this thing - I have way too many projects to spend much time on this. I'm thinking its gonna be cut fronts and lowered rears in the end. Some cool E34s: That's me out. Reveal of the most badacious BMW wheels around when i pick it up in a week or two. Peace

When I had my 535 the cheapest coilovers I could find were on eBay from the US (iirc) for around £600. For cheap lows the standard springs are parallel all round, so no need to worry about pigtails. The rear cut them top or bottom doesn't matter, the front are best cut from the bottom as the spring is shaped at the top to fit into the cup, I cut from the top and the spring wanted to escape! The front struts are insert type ones, so rally design/compbrake weld on sleeves would work well.

I believe that the front shock is integral with the hub on E34s, hence no plethora of cheaper coilover kits for this model.

It depends on how much time/money/effort you want to invest. E34s share the same suspension as E32s, my white 7 was on DIY coilovers or if you want a chopped spring example look at Hardcore's current 750i. From my experience, fronts - 2.5" conversion kit from compbrake (it seems they no longer do these), any old shock, 2.5" 400lbs 7" springs, smaller tyres or spacers or low offset wheels to clear the coilover spring. Rear - E28 shocks (shorter) converted to coilovers, 250lbs ish springs. The fronts really needed a shorter shock and chopped struts, but finding them in huge E34 shock diameter is difficult. The E34's bigger older brother

Oh and if you really fall in love, I think BC Racing do a set of nice looking E34 weld on coilovers for around £700.
