Right, so it's with a heavy heart i have to get rid of Doug the Pug
It has 11 months mot and tax till the end of September and plenty of good points but i'll get the bad out of the way first:
Last Wednesday, after spending a couple of hours in the rain fitting a new top engine mount it started smoking and lost power, then died... Now when you try the starter it turns over but sounds very unhealthy and spins fast like there is no compression. I've not done any exploratory work or had it to a garage but i reckon it wants another engine. Absolutely gutted.
Last month the head gasket went (water system pressurising) so i did a proper job, having the head skimmed and leak checked, fitted a new head gasket of the correct thickness, new head bolts and all other gaskets throughout were new. It started on the button and ran absolutely faultlessly. Until last wednesday...
While i had the head off i checked the condition of the turbo - perfect, no sign of deteriorated seals and no play in the spindle at all.
A fortnight before the headgasket went i fitted a brand new Hella radiator, costing £90 even at mates rates from the local Andrew Page.
At the same time as changing the radiator i had a new cambelt and tensioner fitted (can you see why I'm so gutted?)
Alternator is a recon Bosch unit, only a couple of years old.
Exhaust system is nearly new
Tow bar with twin electrics fitted and working
Roof rails with Peugeot roof bars
Front fog lights refurbed
It has the Bosch diesel pump so it will run on happily on veg
Has full dark grey leather interior
Central locking
Drivers airbag
Peugeot alloys with legal tyres all round
Original load cover
Original Peugeot radio/cassette with steering column controls and uprated front speakers
about £20 worth of stickers on the rear side window!
Loads of history and old mots, oil and filter changed religiously every 5k miles.
Around 173k on the clock
Its in metalic bergundy, absolutely no rust, couple of light knocks and scratches, and lacquer peel on the bonnet (more noticeable is the impreza bonnet scoop i fibreglassed on for a bit of a laugh)
The only reason I'm not putting a new lump in myself is that i needed to get another car quick to get me to work and my driveway has 2 other project cars on it. Windleys salvage in Tattershal quoted me £120 for another tested engine.
Pictures to follow, theres probably more good bits ive forgotten, if theres no interest i'll whip the best bits off, cash in the tax and weigh in the shell but i'd really rather not.
Andy
