Yes, 'that' Oldsmobile...
Tax - October 2012
MOT - January 2013
Back story:
It's had 19 owners, it hit UK shores in 1978 and since then, I can only assume it's had a 'challenging' life, but it's still plodding along somehow.
I bought this a couple of months ago from eBay. It was American, it had a bloody great V8 in it and it was cheap. £900 to be precise. The guy would only sell it to someone who could come and physically view it due to the nature of it's, ahem, 'unique' condition. I popped along, had a look over it and decided there and then that this particular slice of American iron would be the perfect chariot for Retro Rides Gathering 2012.
The Gathering has since been and gone, however, and now the car is filling up my street and annoying the neighbours. Yes, I'd like to keep it and play with it some more, but to be frank that not a scenario I can entertain right now - life is just too busy.
So, there's a bit of a story to it. Now for the good, the bad and the ugly...
The Good
*It's a two-door, V8 Yank for less than a grand
*It turns heads wherever it goes
*The engine sounds and feels strong
*Staggered slot mags
*It scared children and old ladies in equal measure
*It is, once you get used to it, a stupendous amount of fun
*The front end has all kinds of new Summit racing parts such as callipers, drop links and bushes.
The Bad
*The trans leaks, though this is from the cooler return, not the trans itself.
*That said, the the trans has to be manually shifted. Doesn't bother me, but I guess it can't be a good thing.
*Indicators don't work. They did when I bought it, but they have since expired.
*The body is a patchwork quilt of weld. It's been done to a decent standard though, there's just lots of it. Please note, however, that this is the last of the A-Body platform, meaning a seperate chassis.
The Ugly
*Just look at it, it's ugly as sin.
*Painted black by Stevie Wonder, signed off by Ray Charles.
*No interior to speak of. Just two seats and a home-made (but in its own way, quite charming) dash including push-button start.
*Windscreen is cracked/damaged.
*Front bumper is 50% paint 50% metal. I got bored, sorry.
In a nutshell, it's a bit of a heap, but it's a heap with charm, with noise and with some vision, a bit of potential. I really do like it but it's ticked a box for me now, so it has to go. Remember though, it's a two-door, V8, taxed, MOTd American car for £850. It's not pretty, it's not mint and I've not put it on here for you to come along and tell me these things only to not buy it.
I'm trying to avoid eBay as it'll end up getting raced. That said, if it's still outside my house in a week or so that's exactly what will happen.
Price is £850 firm, though I MAY entertain a swap of some kind.
PM me for more info or a number. Oh, and of course, thanks for reading! I'll probably add more when I remember.
