I need a repop chassis plate making for my pickup, which is on a unmodded rover p2 chassis. I have a pic of what the original chassis plate should look like- does anyone know anyone who has the facilities to print the design onto a bit of ally(originals are actually tinned brass- i can supply a bit of that for you to print on if you can do that) in an appropriate ink that wont come off, so I can then stamp and engrave my chassis no. on it?

ferdy, ive shot them a mail, just awaiting a reply.
my speedy, i thought acid etching gave a silver-on silver finish, the acid etching the surface and leaving it rougher, a bit like a sandblasted finish but deeper?

Isn't acid etching how they make PCB's?

Ah yeah. My bad! I wasn't thinking straight today! lol Acid etch gives a 'relief' on same colour background, ie, brass engine plates. Ignore my ramblings and carry on as you were

Got a laser printer or photocopier handy? If you want to try doing it yourself, print the text in mirror image onto some glossy magazine paper and iron it onto a well degreased piece ally or brass. Once it's cooled down toner is properly tough. Only acetone or sandpaper will shift it.

That's pretty much how people do the toner transfer PCB etch stuff. I'd probably lob a coat of lacquer over it if it's going to see much wear.

If its ally, you could mask it and anodise ? Or anodise the black area and laser etch the text back out
