Not exactly retro in years, but certainly in design! For any that aren't aware, VW in South Africa kept making the mk1 Golf as a budget car for years, only ceasing production in 2009. They called it the Citi Golf. I'm an Englishman whose just recently moved to SA, I'd always fancied a Mk1 Golf, seemed like a good choice for a cheap car! It's not very old, or very modified, but I think it's kinda cool. It's also the first car I've ever owned with Anti Hi-Jack! Incidentally, SA is a bit of a haven for old cars. Old Mercs are everywhere, as are old vws, cortinas, Mk 2 escorts etc etc. I should get some pictures sometime and upload a few.

LOL Welcome to ZA I live on the east coast of ZA where golf 1 is king and its not unusual to see all sorts of crazy mods on them the 2.0turbo and vr6 conversion are common, yours still has the older dash where the newer ones are modern polo dash new front wings bumpers and the v in the c pillar, the uk would love the likes of the CTI, velociti and my personal favourite the ROX( limited edition rockford fosgate sound system standard) sadly all glof 1 are produced as 5 door and the 2 door was only available in late 70's and are like gold as for convertibles youre talking big money. aftermarket and original parts are cheap and avilable at every motorspares shop expect to pay about 1 pound for a complete door handle assembly. The insurance is high though because of theft, they are just to easy to get into i am sure if you kick them hard enough the doors pop open. Golf 1 to date came in 32 different shades of white. In total some 377000 were sold in 25yrs and averaged a 1000 golfs being sold every month, I'm not a dub fan but owned 1 for 3 months sorry opel boys! i only have thing to say to vw for stopping the golf1 bring it back the polo vivo is curse word

I've always thought (amongst other unlikely ideas) that a one way ticket to South Africa with some money to buy a citigolf and drive back would be quite an awesome waste of a month or so
