I've been wanting to lower the sierra more than 40mm, but i can't seem to find anything other than 40mm spring and shock sets or insanely priced coil overs, ive posted in the "wanted" thread. my concerns are; 1. 40mm lowered spring's (currently fitted) make the back end sit lower than the front, the shocks keep hitting the bump stops, and i don't want to replace shocks every week. 2. cut spring's would amplify the issues in point 1 , and i'm fairly certain there would be major Mot implications. 3. how low can you take a mk2 Sierra? I read somewhere that if dropped below 65mm the track rods physically make escape attempts...obviously id rather avoid that. Any advice or personal experience words of wisdom would be great. thanks in advance

Our own crazy Finn, Dude is currently running no front springs at all in his Sierra. Presumably his track rods are still in place. Obviously running without springs isn't recommended unless you're a crazy Finn called Dude, though. You'd be fine in MOT terms if you cut springs as long as the spring is correctly seated when you lower weight back onto it after it has been jacked up.

I assume when slammed they kill rear tyres? Never made a pair last long enough on mine to find out they go sideways too well.

Yeah not to good on rear tyres

Lows on sierras result in rear-end toe-in which kills tyres fater than the camber IIRC. That said, I think you can get shims to correct the toe.

rear tyres being killed quickly wouldn't be a huge issue as i don't do many miles in the sierra, the shock travel is huge so i was thinking lowering shocks. running no springs at all sounds fun but slighty scary but interesting dose that kill shocks instantly though?

Obviously running without springs isn't recommended unless you're a crazy Finn called Dude, though. Wow, am I internet famous now? ;D I'm asuming you're bottoming out on the rubber bump stops inside your springs, no way you'll bottom out the shocks with uncut 40mm springs. here's my car before fitting coilovers in the rear, with a bit of suspension travel left! I seriously doubt you're that low ;D But if you actually are bottoming out the rear shocks you can weld lower mounting points for them, I had to do this when I took 3 coils out of -40mm springs, the handling was dramatically improved ;D I'd think you'd be fine cutting at least half a coil out of the front springs to make the car level, sierras don't suffer that bad from slamming, but if you get nervous over the track rod angles you can get uniball ends with a longer bolt, or raise the rack. You can also get cheap yellow konis from cosworth breakers and forums, if you shop around you can get a set for 100, which probably will be the best investment you'll do to you car. edit - rear tyres being killed quickly wouldn't be a huge issue as I don't do many miles in the sierra, the shock travel is huge so I was thinking lowering shocks. running no springs at all sounds fun but slighty scary but interesting dose that kill shocks instantly though? Please don't remove the springs. You'll crack all welds in your car, instantly ruin your bushings and kill a busload of nuns holding kittens. Not the kind you kill running a welded diff or cut springs, even innocenter nuns! No seriously don't. I posted in that thread beacuse i'm tired of these eternal cut springs questions, and sincerely hope everybody understand it's not something you should do, especially if you're contemplating the safety of cut springs!

dude; i wouldn't remove the springs, i just found the concept of it really interesting as its a bold move in the lowering world. i shall be shopping around for some koni type things to sling on the front as the rear dosen't hit the bump stops. out of curiousity, dose your mid-section of exhaust sit on the floor with the car that low? mines only down 40mm and it scraps easily.
