There are hundreds of normal cars stolen everyday, normally they are just used as a getaway from a burgled property and found burnt out a couple of days later and in the meantime they're driven around on false plates. If we wanted to fill this section with those type of vehicles it would soon become massively over-crowded.
It's not the same as a classic being stolen to order or to break as parts and having enthusiasts keeping an eye out for the parts etc.

If we can't keep an eye out for each others cars regardless of age there is something wrong, this is a community after all!
I would also add most retrospect are stolen due to the ease with which they can be stolen, it's mostly exotics that are stolen to order, my old mans SL55 ended up on the continent, according to plod anyway.

How modern cars are stolen with all of their technology these days is beyond me... They steal the keys from the house. Regarding the posting of non-classic retros and classics on here: Thankfully, stolen classics are few and far between meaning when something appears in this section it gets noticed - 'normal' crimes would risk diluting it's effectiveness, however useful the large forum membership might be, I feel that the price is too great to pay. Not only that, it's always been my feeling that the police are less likely to take stolen classics and retros (to most policemen 'our' cars aren't retros and classics - they're just old) seriously in most cases making the community much more important, and not (as in the case above) purely based on numbers - we're the guys looking for bits, trawling ebay, looking under tarpaulins, taking photos of cars we spot and visiting scrapyards. In the case of the DS3 in this thread - the police are looking for a new car, it has a definite value and identity and was taken by burglars who they'll no doubt have a (rightful) priority to catch. |
