Following the BOB with the BOA loom thread, I'm wondering if there's a mobile remapping guy/ company in the Walsall or surrounding areas who could come and at least know what a retro ride is? Contacted one and got very confoodled as I told him its a 96 Scorpio BOB with a BOA in a 79 Cortina, he hung up on me?? I have a mobile mechanic as a neighbour and (I don't jest) He said ad verbatim - Cortinas didn't have ecu's mate, and walked off

I don't know for sure with this particular engine, but the reason a lot of places will be cautious about 'remapping' an older car is down to the type of memory used in some older ECU's. It's not always re-writable, due to the method in which the data is 'burned' into it. In a lot of cars altering the map will require replacing the chip on which the map's stored, as the new map will need burning to a fresh blank chip, rather than being able to re-use the old one. It's why re-mapping often used to be called 'chipping', because you'd replace the whole chip rather than just replacing the map stored on it.
If this is the case with your ECU, then you need to find somewhere that can provide you with a chip that has a map on it suited to your set-up, or you'll need somewhere with the right kit/connections to map the car for you and burn a new chip with the map they've written for it.
Hopefully someone will be able to let you know if this is the case with your ECU or not, I'm not too clued up on fords personally.
If it is a re-programmable ECU then good times, you'll just need to find someone with the software for it, so you'll likely be best off contacting ford specialists.

The only chaps who I know of in your area (but they would need for the car to go to their rolling road) are Hitech Motorsport in Cradely Heath or Aldon in Brierley Hill.

Thanks for the info chaps, I have been told by a knowledgeable sort, its probably my TPS and ICVS which need fettling with, so I'll hold on the remapping till I cover those things.
