Hello all, I fancy tidying up the bay on the MX5, but I'd rather not take it all apart. Any suggestions to what I can use to tidy up the cam cover? Thanks!

Small brass bristled wire brush will clean it up with out damaging anything, or a new gasket and a can of black crackle finish spray. Taking the cam cover off will make the job much easer and give a better finish, not that hard a job to do. You may also want to look at a heat shield for your air filter as i see it sits directly above your exhaust manifold.

Black crackle finish ? Same as MGB / Midget dash and available in cans.

As above, taking the rocker cover off is far, far easier than polishing it whilst leaning into the engine bay. If you're polishing it, then I'd start with degreaser, then sandpaper and then move onto either polishing mops on a drill or autosol or any other metal polish on a rag.

Small brass cup brush in the drill is perfect for getting the white stuff off bare aluminium without scratching it up. If you're leaving it where it is then a flexi drive works great for getting into the corners.

Super, will invest in a new gasket then and give her a polish. Maybe some heat resistant lacquer over the top...
Or maybe get a spare cover to do up...

Or maybe get a spare cover to do up... Sounds like a winning plan to me. No need to rush to put it back together then

Just flat it down with wet&dry then polish it. If it tarnishes again then get some autosul on it, easy. If you put lacquer on and it cracks/discolours then you'll have to do the whole lot again
