I'm not usually into car covers, I find they often do as much harm as good. However I've a couple of cars which are deteriorating due to open storage (ie sat on the drive) and another winter isn't going to do them any favours. Does anyone have a recommend for a source or product or thoughts on the type of cover to get.
Cheers

I reckon the issues to do with car covers is more down to the fact that they are tarpaulin covers rather than anything decent. That and the fact that owners forget to take the covers off on a regular basis in order to let the car 'breathe'. A friend of mine in the trade uses something similar to this for the classic cars he sells, although he does take them off the car to let the cars 'breathe' whenever a dry spell arrives: www.carcoverzone.co.uk/voyager-car-cover-triumph-stag-p-916.htmlI too am considering a cover with the Stag taking residence in a garage (the soft top leaks more water in than it keeps out! (roof membrane has failed).

seen alot of blistered paint from covers
id hazzard a guess they're almost safe on a modern factory paint job , but older cars that have been repainted or patched up seem to blister

I purchased an AutoStorm from these chaps back in 2008... www.autopyjama.com/ - haven't had any issues so far, it's a breathable covering so doesn't suffer from the tarpaulin issues that usually happen. hth.

is the car covered year round ? respray or no? do you take it off often to breath or anything It was covered during autumn/winter/spring months - the car had had a respray from the previous owner. I would take the cover off, maybe once a month for a day, as I would want to take the car for a drive just to keep it ticking over. During April to August, I left the car exposed to the air (but not direct sunlight, I had a car port at previous house - I now have a house with a built in garage). It wasn't cheap, and you really need the straps - I got 3 for mine, one for boot, one for bonnet and one for the middle of the car, that would keep everything in place, even during the strongest of wind storms. Why do I use the past tense in my text? well.... the past 2 years the car has had it's paint totally stripped off and is undergoing extensive "surgery" of a hot-rod kind. Will I feel confident enough to keep the car out on the driveway with the AutoStorm when it returns back to my house next month? (the MG Midget is taking up the garage space). Sure thing, although the car is now in red oxide, so no paint to damage. Worst case scenario the original guy can look at getting 7 garages to keep the cars in... or compromise on other options. I found the auto pyjama did "what it says on the tin", so I would suggest he checks it out online and makes up his own mind whether to invest in one and try it out (he might not agree).

A car cover is a good way of protecting a car but no means the best option (obviously!)...
My Mk1 Granada is under a breathable cover from 'Classic Additions' and although it does the job very well I'd much rather keep my old barge in a garage or secure lock-up of some kind!
I find that I have to 'waft' the cover once a week or so to let the car and the cover itself breath and get some air and I have to say I have noticed some condensation under the cover on many occasions... After it has rained it is like having a wet flannel on the car which can never be good...!!!
I'd recommend these covers as a way of keeping your car protected if you haven't got a garage or a car-port etc... but it is by no means the best way of keeping our beloved motors as safe as houses as it were...!!!

I found the same with car covers I had one of those mid range ones over my mk4 Escort that are ment to breathe, but the water they held was unreal, I thought about putting pipe laging foam on then the cover to keep it off,but never did as someone said the could move with the wind and flatten the paint ? Worth also getting a moisture trap and putting one in the boot and one in the front, amazing how much they collect, stops the damp smell and mouldy steering wheels! Here is my winter storage under construction at my mates, plans to extend it & put a tarp over it Its free so cant complain ;D What about a roof rack then a cover so air gets up the sides and over the roof?

the best ones are the ones that have a metal frame you just pull it over the car and the frame stops it touching the car and allows air to move around it.
