I know its one of them 'how long is a piece of string' type questions, but hey i'll ask anyways I've seen this for sale and want to know roughly how much its worth? - Its a 4 door '72 Avenger - Automatic - 80k odd miles -Bodywork is in really sound condition, the only bad bit being the door mirrors been hit and its rusted underneath where its scratched the paint. all the arches and door bottoms are sound. You've gotta love the aged metallic green paintwork - The interior is shabby, drivers seat is taped up and the dash top might as well not be there! - The seller says there's a bearing rumble from the backend, so i figure at worst it'll be a replacement diff, are these (and other parts) easy to come by?

At rough estimate, prob no more than £300. You can still get Avengers pretty cheap and if its needing work even cheaper.

Looks pretty good that one! That front wing top corner looks like it might be hiding something, but difficult to tell with the pics. Mind you i'd be suprised if it hasn't seen some repairs around there, they all seem to rust on the wing tops. Go for it!

great cars, watch for rot in the front vallance which is apparently structural due to the way the front subframe bolts up.
The value of that one will be hampered by it being an auto as the two pedal drive is not to everyones' taste.

Thought you might like to see my mate Dougs Avenger. One of only two left in this pink colour apparently. Its lowered with short springs on the back and coilover conversion on the front and has some retro cobra superslots. Oh and if anyone comes across the vinyl roof on the A30 near Bodmin, can we have it back! ;D

I used to work with a bloke called Derek back in the early 90's who had an Avenger the same colour as that. I wonder if it's the same one? It was down near Bournemouth.

Here's the write up and the answers to some questions she's had:
1972 HILLMAN AVENGER 1500 GLS AUTO,GREEN 4 DOOR SALOON,MOT,D SEPT 2007,TAX,D SEPT 2007(FREE).NOT THE BEST YOULL EVER SEE,BUT A VERY USEABLE CLASSIC.SOUND AND PRESENTABLE OUTSIDE,HAS PREVIOUSLY HAD NEW WINGS AND A RESPRAY,DRIVERS DOOR HAS DENT AROUND DOOR MIRROR(GLASS IS BROKEN)INTERIOR PRESENTABLE,DASHBOARD TOP IS BADLY SPLIT..MECHANICALY GOOD STARTS RUNS AND DRIVES AS IT SHOULD,SLIGHT WHEEL BEARING NOISE FROM THE REAR.RADIO,FUEL GAUGE AND HEATED REAR WINDOW DO NOT WORK....I BOUGHT THIS CAR OFF EBAY AS A CHEEP FORM OF TRANSPORT WHILST WORKING ON MY ELISE,IT HAS BEEN ULTRA RELIABLE,CHEEP TO RUN,AND ATTRACTED ALOT OF ATTENTION,I HAVE DONE 3,000MLS IN IT,NOW SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENTS
Q: Does the car have a V5, and do the numbers match? What is condition of bodywork on the underside? What is the extent of previous welding/bodypanel replacement? Is there any reason to think that the car may not make a 200 mile non-stop journey? With thanks for your help. 04-Jan-07 A: V5 PRESENT IN MY NAME,HAS BEEN WELDED IN NUMEROUS PLACES,BOTH FRONT WINGS APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED.THE CAR IS IN REGULAR USE,3,000MLS IN THE LAST 4 MTHS,SO NO REASON TO BELIEVE IT WONT DO ANOTHER,3,000MLS IN THE NEXT 4MTHS. Q: Hi, how much would you take for the car? can you tell me exactly what work the car would require? and finally, happy new year! Regards, Alex 04-Jan-07 A: RUNS THE AUCTION.CAR IS USEABLE AS IT IS,AND IS STILL IN DAILY USE

Could be a winner.
Solid enough that you haven't got a world of metal fabricating pain, but not minty fresh so you have no guilt re. doing your own 'thang' to it.
Watch and wait, gotta be worth maybe £400, perhaps more given that it is Gordon-Brown-Exempt

Buy it. It appears to be fairly sound and it has an MOT. I'm soo tempted to buy this one to replace mine that was stolen but I can't because I was given an Imp project, and my wife and I are now expecting and I have a very tight budget and well.. you get the idea.
Avengers are very nice cars to drive. The driving experience feels like that of a much newer car. Besides this is a GLS which makes it somewhat collectable. And as for it being an auto, you'll be happy to know that unlike the 4 speed manual, the auto transmission has a detachable bellhousing which would come in handy if you should decide to convert it to a 5 speed.
