Remember when Robin said this?
Well, he wasn't wrong. I can demonstrate this with my latest purchase. It's old, it's a little bit rusty, it's been in a garage since 1995 and it lacks those two important bits of paper that allow it to grace the roads in a cloak of legality. Perfect Pollitt purchase then, right?
Not one for buying a common car, I thought I'd make it hard for myself by investing in a car which, according to howmanyleft.com, shares UK soil with only five others.
"Shut up Pollitt, just tell us what the damn thing is!"
Oh, okay. Here, ladies and gents, is my latest acquisition - my 1977 Mitsubishi Colt Sigma...
Sorry, the car is in Romford at present, so all I have are these shonky eBay pics. What? No, I'm The Pollitt, of course I didn't bother going to see it before bidding.
Like I said, it's a '77, it's brown and all in all it's chuffin' awesome. One owner from new, 66k on the clock and according to the current owner, it runs fantastically. He's taken the time to service the engine and get it going again, which saves me a job.
I bought it because my personal situation is changing (yes, again) so I need a car. I could have ploughed money into the long-term-loan Vectra that lingers at the bottom of my garden, but where's the fun in that? The Mitsi is cheap to buy, cheap to run and despite being a rare old Hector, parts are easy to come by too. It's a win of wins.
As it stands now I'm in chats with our man Dez to bring it back to the correct side of legality. It could be a nail, which will mean it'll go back on the 'bay. I'm hoping it's not, though. I'm basing this all on my last rare slice of J tin - my Sapporo...
That heap was in a barn for 11 years but it went straight through an MOT.
So, there we are. Pollitt buys another shed. Yay.
Before I go, there is one worrying issue - the mileage. Buying a car with '666' on the clock, that can only be a good thing, right?
Chris
I love the fact you can never guess what kind of car your going to buy next, this is a completely random and awesome purchase.
