Hi all,
I have a 1996 Peugeot 406 1.9 turbo diesel. It has the Bosch fuel system so I use veg oil in it without any problems.
I'm looking to get a smaller car and am totally hooked on the veg oil thing so am wondering if anyone has some suggestions for a suitable car? I'm looking to just add veg oil without doing any mods.
I was looking at a 306 (with aircon) or late 205 but am told these only came with Lucas/CAV fuel systems. Any idea whether this is correct?
Thanks,
Straggler.

Plenty of 205's are fitted with the Bosch pump, I think only very early 306's had the Bosch pump. Swapping a Lucas for a Bosch isn't too hard, there's a guy on the 306oc who will do the swap, change the cambelt and tune the pump for £100. I may be wrong here, but I think the Bosch pump is quite common on Citroens like the ZX and Xantia? Happy hunting!

I thought it was the N/A diesel 205's that have the majority of the Bosch pumps. I think It's the 205 TD's that mostly have the Lucas ones

Any ideas about the 1.4 turbo diesel in the Seat Arosa? Running one of those on veg oil would be seriously cheap motoring.

Thats a modern TDi, don't think you'll have any luck there (like mk4 golf's).

My old 205 had the Bosch pump, J reg, and I've definitely seen some 205 TD's with the Bosch pumps as well. I think it just depends on what they had lying around! This might shed some light: www.dieselveg.com/Vehicle%20List.htm

VW AAZ 1.9TD or the Y1 engines, any peugeot/citroen with the manual bosch pump will run on veg, i`ve got a 205 running on veg and will be looking for a VW td early next year.

In this cold weather I would add some derv into the mix or even thin with £5 unleaded petrol to a full tank! 1st time using veg in a tank you should drive for about 500miles and then change the fuel filter as it drags up all the crud out of the tank

Any ideas about the 1.4 turbo diesel in the Seat Arosa? Running one of those on veg oil would be seriously cheap motoring. My old boss ran a Polo with that engine on veg oil. He ran a heat exchanger in the top hose and had a plastic tank in the boot for diesel plumbed in on a changeover valve. In the winter he'd start on DERV, run it for a minute then switch over to veg in the main tank, then switch back a couple of hundred yards before turning it off to flush the veg oil out of the pump. The heat exchanger was very simple: just a couple of feet of rubber top hose with a tee at each end and a bit of small bore copper pipe through the middle emerging from the tees though the middle of a plug. All held together with jubilee clips. He ran it like that for a few years before selling it on I think. I used to get a lift in to work in it quite regularly for a while.
