Excellent use of your time there Mat! Amusing how often the hi-po version can still be seen with a set of plain old steels.
These ad’s are taken from the Car Styling Quarterly books, right? I’ve managed to get one or two of them over the years, sadly not enough. They contain great info on the design philosophy of a then-new model and show lots of prototype shots.
Edit: The ‘Celica’ is I think a 2dr version of the Corolla, KE70 model?

Yup car Styling Quarterly, Coventry has a full set going back to 1977 ish. They come up on ebay occasionally but command high prices. The art work in them is great, development sketch's and especially the full coulour renders, I will try an scan some in later.

Before the non-J-car people get too bored, worth mentioning that they don’t just feature Japanese cars, lots of European and US stuff too plus the work of a featured designer. Handily they’re also written in English so it’s not just a case of oohing over the pretty pictures.
A similar publication is the Italian book Style Auto, got one of them from 1970/71 – in-depth look at Toyota Corona plus Renault 12, and it even comes with a foldout blueprint-type drawing of the latter. Perhaps that’s how Dacia got started with the Denem……

I did!!!!
The Starlet, sadly is not a turbo, Toyota never released a factory K series with a hairdryer on it. That one is the 'S' model which basically meant a tacho dash and a couple of other sporty late 70's bits.
One of the guys on oldschool.co.nz has just bought a Sapporo turbo like that one up the top....
Awesome scans, why can I never find anything cool like that.... I may have to spend some time rifling through the various retro car books at the library one day I have nowt to do....

Oh, are they ALL in English as well as Japanese? Even so far back as the 70s? Had a chance of buying quite a few of them a while ago but didn't really know what they were. Should I kick myself, or will someone else do it for me
