Hi guys and gals,
I think I'm loosing the plot to be honest...
Last December I bought a mk2 (88) fiesta 957 through a forum member on here. I kept the fiesta until July, during that time I had a few small places welded up, gave it a service the day after I got it (between boxing day and new year). never had any other problems apart from some bushes that wanted changing (suspension groans).
I sold it in July this year and bought myself a pug 306 cabriolet 1.8 16v with a genuine low mileage of 51k miles. in good condition feels solid with very little scuttle shake.
I haven't had any problems apart from some minor little things such as the air-bag warning light flashing most times (caused by wiring under the drivers seat, common fault).
The insurance on the cabriolet next april (2 years ncb had my license 2 years, no points doing 5k a year, commuting) will be roughly £1025 with a £300 excess TPFT.
the fiesta (either 957 or 1.1) £784 with £300 excess.
I now do around 4.2 miles per day to work and back. So don't see the sense in paying £121 every 6 months in tax or... the extra on the insurance. The other thing I've come up against is my parents said why don't we go out for the day (to where we usually go on holiday) 150 mile there, 150 mile back. The fuel cost of doing said trip, just for that one day would have been around £60!!
where if I'd have kept my old fiesta, it wouldn't have bothered me so much as it would haven't cost anywhere near as much.
I can't weld or grind but can do most mechanical jobs.
the other thing that is at the back of my mind is the state of the country and how many people are being made redundant etc. at least with a fiesta It's not expensive to run/keep (motoring and it's cheapest level pretty much).
Would you think I'm stupid for selling a 306 cabriolet with half leather, everything works as it should (the electrical glitches are sorted easily with a jiggle of a connector). with just 54k genuine miles that's been completely reliable. for a mk2 or mk1 fiesta 1.1 ?
My parents say I would be daft to go back to a fiesta again but.. I enjoyed the fact that you could stick £15 in the tank and go to the coast and back (did that 3-4 times in the fiesta with no worries, haven't had the chance in the cabriolet yet due to fuel cost.
Thanks in advance
rob
