Right time for an update.
\I didn't post originally due to this being a public forum however the whole purpose of building this van was to go on a planned and booked holiday to Denmark and Sweden.
Due to all the messing about with the original convertor who let me down, and then lack of funds and time I ended up leaving it to the very last minute.
Due to time I had to book the van into a garage for the cambelt / service etc. I would normally do this myself but wasn't going to happen. I went to a garage I'd not used before after the first 2 said no mate not touching that !!!
In the end I had both belts replaced / water pump / full service / front pads and an MOT (passed with no issues) The van had only done about 500 miles since it's last MOT in 2012 ish ?
The price was a very reasonable and would certainly use them again. It took them a couple of days which then took me to Thursday morning before I could collect (ferry sailed the Sunday)
I wanted to a least give it a shake down and my mate told my the squires café bike meet was on that night and he was taking his Kawasaki so though that would be a nice drive (nice evening) did about 60 miles there and back and the van was great no issues at all.
This left 3 things for the holiday, camping gaz - after various sorry sold out I found a place that had some so bought and cooker tested (ok)
Curtains - luckily the mother in law is a wiz with the sewing machine so she made me some up and I collected the Friday and fitted Saturday morning. Oh and the wife said the van looked to plan so wanted some decals. A quick call to IOW decals earlier in the week and the decals arrived and me and my son had a go at lifting the van a bit. Still not 100% but I'm pleased with it.
So rest of Saturday was packing the van and we set off driving for Harwich at 9am Sunday morning (3.45 sail)
Anyway i'll let the pictures do the talking, we were the only non VW camper that turned up and did cause a little attention.
curtains fitted note the Moomin theme
|At Harwich - every VW van waiting to board !
This turned up also 4x4 version and making his way to Iceland - nice trip..
and on us way
After a quick overnight stop we then ended up at LEGOLAND Denmark -
another chuffing VW !!
and in the car park at LEGOLAND
after a short stay at LEGOLAND we then made our way to Copenhagen and stopped there for a little while
Then crossed the Oresund bridge into Sweden and made our way up the west cost to Halmstad.
we were a little dwarfed at this site !!
and spotted these in Halmstad
Then after 2 weeks time to head back to Esjberg where this was also in the queue
And then home stopping off at Newark on the way to break the journey. The van was brilliant and everything did
as it should. It's given me ideas for the odd modification here or there. It averaged 35mpg at a steady 60 / 65 ish.
It would do more but I was more comfortable at the speed.
I'll keep this updated with whatever I do to it but overall I'm really chuffed with it and couldn't be better - best of all
the misses and daughter absolutely loved it. SO now need to start on some of my other projects.
