Welcome to my advert. Sadly, I have decided to sell my ’88 Civic after a short (but sweet) period of ownership. I acquired the car on 10th November after my previous Peugeot 106 registered a monster MOT fail; I needed a run around to finish off my insurance policy with so after a little searching I was lucky enough to come across this DX.
My insurance policy expires on 23rd December and the (ridiculous) new rules mean that I cannot keep the DX legally unless I SORN it. As far as I’m concerned, it seems a waste to SORN a good cheap run around which still has some tax left on it. I want to get a ‘better’ car after Christmas so that is why I’m not going to be reinsuring the DX, and I would like someone else to have some use out of it.
The DX has a 1.3 single carburetor engine with a manual choke. Despite its age it starts first time even in the conditions which we’ve seen most recently.
The car has a nice condition interior; the previous owner installed the seats from a Civic 16i16 model which are really comfortable.
The person who the previous owner acquired the car from was a long term keeper and maintained the car well, mechanically throughout the period of ownership.
For the most recent MOT, a new CV boot, new rear ‘shoes and new front ‘pads were fitted.
Advisories on the MOT were:
001 (All arches) Body has slight corrosion
002 (both outer sills) Body has slight corrosion
003 Front (both sides) Shock absorber has light misting of oil
004 Front registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread*
005 Oil leak**
006 Rear tyres cracking between tread
*A new front plate has been fitted
** Oil leak is from the rocker cover gasket – a new item is c£3.95
Bad points:
A neighbor reversed into the passenger side door – sizable dent, no damage to wing or sill.
Sunroof is a little leaky – would benefit from a new seal or a silicone up.
Rust on arches, and drive way spec welding on sills. (Come on, this is Retro Rides)
Horn doesn’t work – I’ve not investigated yet.
Rattle from exhaust heat shield
Rear silencer needs putting back on o/s hanger
Previous owner 'de wipered' the boot. I have all the components to refit.
Questions which you might ask?
Auto ‘box
The Auto ‘box works very well and has a kick down function. It is surprisingly smooth but allows the engine the rev nicely if you need to pick up extra speed.
MPG?
I have been getting approximately 160 miles to £20
Price is £425
Call Nick on 07840 009 206
No unsolicited text messages bearing any resemblance to the following:
“wil u tek £150 cash 2nite m8”
**Still awaiting the V5C to come back from DVLA. I have a V5C Part 2 though.
