For sale (or swap with another mk2) is my beloved mk2 golf. Only reason I'm testing the water with this is because due to my mk3 VR6 having a bit of tinworm, I've decided to convert this or another mk2 to VR6. I just don't really want to be tearing this one apart again in all honesty, it doesn't owe me masses of cash but it does owe me a LOT of my time.
Anyways about the car.
Its a 1990 GL 5 door in lovely metallic medium blue. The shell itself has NO RUST! Only bit that could need attention is the front arches where they've been rolled in the past, the paint has flaked. Easy fix.
112k on the car.
No TnT, been off the road and spent most of its time in my garage since May this year.
Now to the good stuff.
2E engine and mk2 GTI gearbox, 149k on the engine, I bought the donor car and have lots of history from it.
In fact its safe to say ALL the running gear is now mk3. I dropped the complete subframe from the donor and bolted it all up to this car. Therefore this car is now widetracked, has the mk3 rear beam with discs, all 5x100 hubs, 280mm front brakes, 22mm master cylinder, and runs the mk3 engine loom and ECU which is all seperated (and wrapped) from the mk2 lighting/ancillary looms.
Rear calipers are refurbed with braided hoses, and has all now brake fluid in it, along with oil and filter.
It has some coilovers of unknown make, but they do the job of making it low and stiff.
Inside the car you'l find the mk3 clocks, stalks and steering wheel, and a full set of audi A3 sport seats which are yet to be fitted.
It also has the rare electric heated mirrors, and central locking although the pump is dead.
Theres probably more spec wise I've forgotten, if I remember anything I'l add it here.
Now to complete it needs...
A snapped rear beam bolt, its easy to get at fortunately
Seats need fitting or another set of mk2 seats
Tracking is miles out
Smaller tyres as the 205s catch the front arches with the widetrack
A backbox making to fit the huuuuge stainless centre pipe thats on it, or a complete system
and 2 little pipes for the coolant hoses as I sold the bypass valve.
Oh and it has a PAS fluid leak, I put the mk2 bottle on mk3 pipes and a pipe is too big so doesn't clamp up. I can supply a mk3 bottle which will cure the problem although the mk3 bottle will need to be made to fit on the chassis rail (cable tie FTW).
So a good weekends work and its ready for an MOT.
I have driven it a short distance, and it seemed promising, bags of torque and stops on a dime.
Ideally a swap for another mk2 for me to convert to VR6 would be great, but it HAS to be a 90 spec car and not a 1.3.
Or enough cash for me to buy another mk2 to convert. The car owes me around £700 so will listen to offers.
Also the car is in Lincoln. Have some pics...
And finally this was the donor
