How do i remove the shameful 1.0 stamp on the back? and anyone think its worth removing the strips along the sides? Also best way to lower a polo, not by much just to close up the gaps

best way to lower your polo is coilovers mate, that way you can adjust them to the height you want, get some cheap ebay specials they're good enough ive had quite a few cars with them

What age polo is it? It'll make quite a difference to how you do everything you've mentioned.

best way to lower your polo is coilovers mate, that way you can adjust them to the height you want, get some cheap ebay specials they're good enough ive had quite a few cars with them If it's a mk1/2/3 you'll be looking at a minimum of £500 for some cheap ones! Personally I chose the 60/40 H&R cup kit, it cost a lot less and although they're not adjustable they ride nice and the height is bang on for regular driving. As for the badges, a hairdryer and some dental floss should do the trick. Autoglym bug and tar remover will remove the leftover gunk. Same goes for the rubstrip jobbies but personally I quite like them  |

Just had a hunt through your posts and I'm guessing it's a 6n? (Usually easier if you just tell us  that's the trouble with a forum that encompases all makes and models, great for inspiration/variation, but you have to be pretty specific about what car you're talking about.) If it's a 6n then for lowering it'll depend on what you mean by the 'best' way. If you want to fiddle with height and get it looking spot on, you don't mind a reasonably firm ride and you're not wanting to spend loads then some cheep coilovers will be fine. If handling's your main concern and you don't mind the lack of adjustability then a spring and shock kit from a reputable brand will be better than cheepo coilovers though. If you're not arsed about adjustability and want to save some cash a cheep spring and shock kit will be fine. PhilJ (Jackson Tuning) over on club-polo is probably a good place to start looking. Debadging on the 6n is I think just a case of levering the badge off carefully and then cleaning up and polishing off any residue from the adhesive, but I couldn't be sure with that age. The older stuff has the badge pinned through the boot lid, which leaves you with holes to weld up, and I'm not 100% the 6n isn't the same deal, if possible I guess you could take the trim off the inside of the boot to investigate, or just do a search on a Polo forum, it's bound to have come up. (The reason we needed to know about the age is that as well as the badge pins I mentioned, coilovers for Polos before the 6n are very pricey because of the way they fit, so they're not really an option unless you're pretty serious.) |

coilovers are just as easy to fit as shocks and springs I think you've misread. He said mk1-3 coilovers are expensive because of how they fit, not that they're difficult to fit. |

Right tyres and suspension. I want to lower it, to a comfortable level, just get rid of the gaps. And what are the widest wheels i could legally have on the back? ;D

i would go for 15x7 wheels with either 175/45 or 185/45 rubber

i fitted some el cheapo jom coilies to a mk3 golf other week, i am uber impressed with them. don't ride half as bad as people think.
rear badge just pulls off and so do the side strips, but its well easy to pull off the paint / laquer with the side strips.

yeah i haven't bothered with the side strips, is it hard to put on lowering springs? Its a 1.0 6n i'm thinking about maybe 60/50 or 50/50 or 40/40?

I used to have a 6n polo, and did similar mod to what your thinking of doing. I fitted the cheapest coilover's i could find at the time which were about £140 posted off eBay. Compared to the original shocks they were about 1.5" shorter and took me an afternoon to fit (front and rear) . BUTremember to get your tracking done after changing the height! I didnt and set off to the shops thinking it felt abit weavy!  Here they are compared to the std's:  When wound down to the lowest possible setting they went this low:  but when wound up nice and tight you could get almost standard ride height, as the sprigs didnt have as much sag in them so made up for the shorter bodies. Wheels off the 16v 1.4 along with the anti roll bar ect fit them, but i wouldnt bother spending a fortune on engine parts for a 1.0. might not be the fastest off the line but they can catch up in the corners  Heres my old one covered in satin black paint :  James. |

Everyone has just told you that coilovers are the way to go. So now you want to know which lowering springs to get?
Seriously, lowering springs are not very good. You would be so much better off spending slightly more and getting coilovers. At least then you can adjust the height until you're happy with it.
