As I don't drink I didnt have a hangover on New years day so I got up early and headed out on my bike to see what Glasgow city centre looks like without people. I couldnt believe I was able to stand in the middle of some of Scotlands busiest streets at 9am on a Tuesday and not worry about getting run over. Here are a few of the results and there are more on my flickr page with more to follow if interested; The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr The day after the apocalypse by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr Dave

lol, great pics! It's like 28 Days Later Hope you had your anti-zombie emergency pack handy? By contrast we went for a stroll along the seafront yesterday and it was like the entire population of Worthing was already there. Like some sort of timewarp back to the days of Victorian constitutionals. Only with more Croydon Facelifts and cans of Special Brew and Tescos own brand red bull on show

More likely to need an anti-zombie pack on a normal day in Glasgow ;D
Worse thing I saw was a few people doing the walk of shame with the scars of the night before.

A brilliant idea to go out with the camera at that time - and a great collection of images.

How weird, what are the odds of two Worthingese being on here having shared the same quality time, lol. It wasn't too bad, I just went down onto the pebbles and played the game of seeing how long the kids went before ending up getting wet. They're worse than dogs for playing tag with the waves, but at least smell better when they're full of seawater. Gave me a chance to get some cool pics of my own anyway. It was a bit blowy!

The shoe was out of its normal habitat. Usually they stay on top of bus shelters. ;D

another time that would be ideal for this type of foto, is 5am in the middle of summer, when it's daylight.

I'm not even from Worthing, i live near Canterbury but my parents live on shoreham beach so was down visiting and attempting to spend some Xmas money. Me and the misses also intend moving down that area soonish too, really fallen in love with west Sussex to be honest.

Great photos Dave . It's many years since I left Glasgow and all has changed since then but your images bring back many memories and have a lovely haunting feel about them . Have you looked at these ? urbanglasgow.co.uk/archive/o_t__t_1654__start_0__index.htmlIf not pour a cuppa and enjoy the next hour.

I look forward to having a browse through them tomorrow evening Dave , Thanks . I never lived in Glasgow but grew up near Motherwell but socialised in Glasgow a lot ( The Maggie and Greens Playhouse nee Apollo have a lot to answer for .....).Way back in the 80's I worked for two companies in Glasgow GEC up in Colston Road Bishopbriggs and a smaller Process Control company in Gavinton St. Cathcart. I drove and worked throughout the city and Scotland as a whole for many years. I moved away to London about '94 and then further after that . I haven't been home for a couple of years now but was horrified when I last went into Glasgow and seen the " progress " . The 70's and 80's era and people therein and around Glasgow were a moment in time and a happy one too. Don

My work is on Muirend ave, one street over from Gavinton.
I have a Sham 69 LP with 2 tickets for the Apollo taped to the front but the apollo is long gone and now the site of Europes tallest cinema. All shiny and modern like a big sore thumb.
At the moment in Glasgow I'm having an issue with so many 60's and 70's concrete buildings that are getting torn down and replaced by glass and aluminium blocks. Might not be to everybodys taste but it seems wrong to completely erase an era of buildings.
