As a past owner of two lovely white Maestro Diesel vans (a 500 City and a positively Bentley-like 700 L) I recently decided that I quite like the idea of another one - now that they are a bit retro and even more uncouth. Well, after a bit of a search around the internet it appears that they've all disappeared. Last time I looked there were millions of the damned things. So, I want to know when this happened and who is responsible! They can't all be gone, surely Mike

You could always go to China for one! They are now built by the Chinese tobacco group etsong. It now goes under the rather uninspiring name of the QE6440

Blimey. I wonder if they still use the Perkins Prima engine. A thorough workout for the lungs and ears, they were.
I've just discovered the Maestro.org.uk forums. Might have to keep an eye on their For Sale section!

They soon became a favoured traveller runabout almost as soon as production ended. The only ones I have seen lately all seem to be parked outside of rundown allotments. Excellent diesel engine. Different PCD to the rest of the maestro/montego family (4x114.3 iirc)

Someone on Austin-rover.co.uk has just found one in a barn so they are out there.
But, like Escort mkIII vans, you don't see as many any more.

Cannot remeber the last time I saw one.
How about a Maestro turbo conversion, or K series.

Naaah. Turbocharged T series is where it's at now (as fitted to the Rover 600ti and 220 Turbo).

Have a nose round any Market day / autojumble / car boot sale That's where they are all hiding. Must say I'd be quite partial to one. Ideal chugganaut for moving tat / dog round the countryside without incuuring the wrath of SWMBO for piking off with the wagon again ;D

My dad used to have one, great motors! Front end of a maestro, rear of a morris ital van, lol.
There was one on fleabay a few weeks ago. It was tatty but mae quite good money IIRC. Definately make a premium over the car version. They look alot older than they actually are. Instant classic look!

My dad has a 1.3 one years ago. I rebuilt the engine on it for him. I always like the shape and wondered why people customised Escort vans but not Maestros as I thought they were better looking. I thought it was pretty dreadful to drive though.
The A series powered ones used a gearbox like a golf don't they? Maybe a VW engine and box could be persuaded in there?

The 1.3 Maestro uses exactly the same gearbox as a Golf.

My local garage uses one. I'm always eyeing it up when I walk past. A quick one would rock
